Understand Ororon
Useful when…
- Add Nightsoul-aligned Electro damage when Ororon has at least 10 Nightsoul points and nearby opponents take one of the specified types of damage.
- Restore Energy to an active attacker and to Ororon while he is off-field after his Skill orb hits and qualifying attacks land.
- Use his Natlan leaps, Nightspirit object interactions, and party gliding-speed increase during exploration.
How his Skill and Nightsoul damage work
Night’s Sling deals Nightsoul-aligned Electro damage with a Spirit Orb. If other opponents are nearby, the orb can bounce between them; each opponent can be selected only once per use, and it vanishes after three bounces or when no eligible targets remain. After a nearby party member triggers Nightsoul Burst, Nightshade Synesthesia grants Ororon 40 Nightsoul points. For 15 seconds after he uses his Skill, Hydro or Electro attacks from other party members that hit opponents grant 5 points, at most once every 0.3 seconds and up to ten times. His maximum is 80 points. When nearby opponents take Electro-Charged or Lunar-Charged reaction damage, or Nightsoul-aligned damage dealt by other nearby characters, he spends 10 points if he has them to deal Nightsoul-aligned Electro damage based on 160% of his ATK to up to four nearby opponents. This Hypersense effect can trigger once every 1.8 seconds, and his Nightsoul’s Blessing state lasts six seconds. These conditions make his extra damage dependent on both point generation and qualifying nearby damage.
Burst and Energy restoration
Dark Voices Echo deals area Electro damage and summons the Supersonic Oculus for nine seconds. The Oculus taunts nearby opponents and repeatedly fires rotating sonic waves that deal Nightsoul-aligned Electro damage. The Burst costs 60 Energy and has a 15-second cooldown. Aspect Catalyst activates for 15 seconds after Night’s Sling’s Spirit Orb hits an opponent. During that time, when a nearby active party member hits an opponent with a Normal, Charged, or Plunging Attack, that attacker restores 3 Energy; Ororon also restores 3 Energy if he is off-field. It can trigger once per second, up to three times per duration. Use the Skill first and land qualifying attacks while the Sigil is active to gain this restoration.
Exploration and investment priorities
In Natlan areas with Phlogiston Mechanics, switching to Ororon while the active character is airborne makes him leap high; the party can trigger this Nightsoul Transmission once every 10 seconds. Holding Aiming Mode lets him interact with Nightspirit Graffiti and Nightspirit Sigils. Holding jump consumes 75 Stamina to leap, or prioritizes 5 Phlogiston for a higher leap in qualifying Natlan areas. In the air, holding Normal Attack enters Aiming Mode and consumes Phlogiston or Stamina. His passive increases party gliding speed by 15%, but does not stack with passives that provide the exact same effect. For combat investment, prioritize the Skill and Burst tracks if you value Night’s Sling and Dark Voices Echo; invest in Normal Attack if you regularly use his bow attacks. Ascension is a separate progression track. His normal shots are physical bow shots, while a fully charged aimed shot deals Electro damage.
Limitations and common misreads
Night’s Sling cannot select the same opponent twice in one use, so its bouncing is most relevant when multiple eligible opponents are present. Hypersense does not trigger just because Ororon has points: he must have at least 10, and nearby opponents must take one of its specified damage types. Aspect Catalyst begins only after the orb hits, applies only to the listed attacks that hit during its duration, and has a three-trigger cap. Ororon receives its Energy only while off-field. The Burst’s nine-second Oculus duration is shorter than its 15-second cooldown, and its 60-Energy cost is a separate consideration when planning to use it regularly.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Hypersense depends on point generation and specified nearby damage conditions.
- Aspect Catalyst restores Energy only after the orb hits, on listed attacks that hit, and at most three times per duration.
- The Burst costs 60 Energy, while its Oculus lasts nine seconds on a 15-second cooldown.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting Night’s Sling to select the same opponent more than once per use.
- Expecting Hypersense without at least 10 Nightsoul points and one of its specified nearby damage conditions.
- Expecting Aspect Catalyst before the orb hits, on attacks that do not hit, or while Ororon is on-field for his own Energy restoration.
- Assuming Aspect Catalyst triggers on every attack despite its one-second interval and three-trigger limit.
- Expecting an ordinary bow shot to deal Electro damage; only a fully charged aimed arrow is specified to do so.
