Understand Xinyan
Useful when…
- Provide a shield and its Physical-damage bonus to a Physical-damage-focused character.
- Use the skill against multiple nearby opponents to reach its stronger shield levels and periodic Pyro damage.
- Use the burst for a Physical hit followed by Pyro damage in an area.
How does her shield work?
Sweeping Fervor deals Pyro damage to nearby opponents and creates a shield whose absorption scales with Xinyan’s DEF and the number of opponents hit. Hitting zero or one opponent gives Level 1; two gives Level 2; three or more gives Level 3. Level 3 also deals intermittent Pyro damage nearby. The shield lasts 12 seconds, has an 18-second cooldown, absorbs Pyro damage at 250% effectiveness, and infuses Xinyan with Pyro when cast. Her first passive lowers the thresholds: one hit can reach Level 2, and two or more can reach Level 3.
When is she useful?
Her second passive makes characters protected by Sweeping Fervor deal 15% more Physical damage, so the shield has a specific offensive use for Physical-focused play. Because shield level depends on nearby targets hit, using the skill into a group is the way to access its highest level and its periodic Pyro damage. Riff Revolution hits nearby opponents with Physical damage, then causes nearby Pyro explosions; it costs 60 Energy and has a 15-second cooldown.
What should you improve first?
If you rely on the shield, prioritize the elemental skill: its shield absorption and Level 3 periodic damage are the effects most directly tied to her support role. Raise her level through ascension when investing further in her character is appropriate. The burst is a reasonable next talent investment if you use it for its Physical hit and Pyro explosions. Normal-attack levels matter more if she spends substantial field time using her claymore attacks. These are role-based priorities, not a universal damage ranking.
What can limit the shield?
The strongest shield level is not automatic: without her first passive, it requires hitting at least three opponents, and even with that passive it requires two. Against a lone target the shield remains Level 1. Its absorption scales with DEF, so investments aimed only at damage do not directly build the stated shield scaling. The 12-second duration is shorter than the 18-second skill cooldown, so the skill cannot maintain an uninterrupted shield by itself.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The shield’s stronger levels depend on hitting multiple opponents, though her passive lowers the thresholds.
- Building DEF supports the skill’s shield absorption; her burst also deals Physical and Pyro damage, so a shield-focused setup does not automatically maximize both roles.
- Her shield duration is shorter than its cooldown.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming every cast creates the Level 3 shield; check how many opponents the skill hits and account for her threshold-lowering passive.
- Building only for damage while expecting strong shield absorption, which scales with DEF.
- Expecting the shield to remain continuously available despite its 12-second duration and 18-second cooldown.
