Understand Geniuses' Repose
Useful when…
- An Erudition damage dealer who values ATK and CRIT DMG.
- A wearer likely to defeat enemies during combat.
What does it provide?
At S1, the wearer gains 16% ATK. When the wearer defeats an enemy, their CRIT DMG increases by 24% for three turns. At S5, the ATK increase is 32% and the CRIT DMG increase is 48%, with the same three-turn duration. The trigger is defeating an enemy; the wording does not say that another ally’s defeat activates it.
When does the conditional CRIT DMG matter?
The ATK increase applies independently of defeats. The CRIT DMG effect is most relevant when the wearer secures an enemy defeat and then has attacks during the remaining three turns that can benefit from it. It will not trigger merely from hitting an enemy, and a fight with no defeat by the wearer leaves the conditional portion unused.
How should it be improved?
Promotion raises the Light Cone through stage 6. Superimposition increases ATK and the amount of CRIT DMG gained after a defeat, but not the duration; each step consumes one S1 sacrifice copy of Geniuses’ Repose. Consider promotion for a continuing wearer and duplicate investment when the wearer can trigger the effect often enough to value its stronger buff.
What alternatives focus on other Erudition effects?
A Dream Scented in Wheat provides CRIT Rate and bonuses to Ultimate and Follow-Up Attack damage. After the Charmony Fall adds Break Effect and grants SPD after the wearer’s Ultimate. A Star That Lights the Night uses Assist Skill actions to regenerate Energy and build stacks, with an Ultimate damage increase at a specified stack count. Their triggers and damage support differ from Geniuses’ Repose’s ATK plus wearer-defeat CRIT DMG.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The CRIT DMG bonus requires the wearer to defeat an enemy.
- The three-turn duration does not increase with superimposition.
- Its conditional benefit can be absent against a target without a wearer-secured defeat.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming any ally’s defeat activates the buff.
- Treating the CRIT DMG increase as permanent.
- Expecting the effect to trigger from a hit that does not defeat an enemy.
