Life Should Be Cast to Flames

Weakness-implant and DEF-reducing Erudition Light Cone

Introduced in v3.2

Life Should Be Cast to Flames restores Energy at the wearer's turn start, reduces enemy DEF after the wearer attacks, and grants extra wearer damage against targets whose Weakness the wearer implanted. Consider it when the wearer can implant Weakness and attack often enough to apply its DEF reduction.

Understand Life Should Be Cast to Flames

Useful when…

  • An Erudition wearer who implants enemy Weakness and attacks those targets.
  • A wearer who values recurring turn-start Energy and a two-turn DEF reduction.

What are the effects?

At S1 the wearer regenerates 10 Energy when their turn starts. When the wearer attacks an enemy, that target's DEF is reduced by 12% for two turns. If the target has a Weakness implanted by the wearer, the wearer deals 60% more DMG to it. At S5, the DEF reduction is 24% and the implanted-Weakness damage bonus is 100%; the listed Energy gain and duration remain unchanged. The same types of effects cannot stack.

When is it a practical fit?

The DEF reduction follows an attack by the wearer, so attacking targets helps apply it. The separate damage bonus is narrower: the enemy's Weakness must have been implanted by this wearer. A team or character that cannot satisfy that condition should not count on the extra damage, though the turn-start Energy and DEF reduction remain relevant.

Promotion and superimposition

Promotion raises the Light Cone's level. Superimposition raises the DEF reduction and implanted-Weakness damage bonus; the Energy gain stays at 10 and the DEF reduction lasts two turns at all listed ranks. Each listed superimposition step consumes another copy, making it a more relevant investment when the wearer reliably uses both special conditions.

Other Erudition options

A Dream Scented in Wheat offers CRIT Rate plus Ultimate and Follow-Up ATK DMG. After the Charmony Fall instead offers Break Effect and a temporary SPD bonus after Ultimate. A Star That Lights the Night has Assist Skill-triggered Energy and stacking damage bonuses. Those effects have different attack-mode requirements and do not reproduce this cone's wearer-implanted Weakness condition.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • The large damage bonus only applies to targets with a Weakness implanted by the wearer.
  • Repeated DEF reductions of the same type do not stack.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming any implanted Weakness qualifies; it must be implanted by the wearer.
  • Expecting multiple same-type DEF reductions to stack.

Effects and reference details

Smelt · Superimposition

The passive activates only on a wearer following Erudition. Each additional rank uses a duplicate or its designated special material.

S1 When the wearer's turn starts, regenerates 10 Energy. If the enemy target has a Weakness implanted by the wearer, increases the wearer's DMG dealt to it by 60%. When an enemy target gets attacked by the wearer, the wearer decreases the target's DEF by 12%, lasting for 2 turn(s). The same types of effects cannot stack.

S2 When the wearer's turn starts, regenerates 10 Energy. If the enemy target has a Weakness implanted by the wearer, increases the wearer's DMG dealt to it by 70%. When an enemy target gets attacked by the wearer, the wearer decreases the target's DEF by 15%, lasting for 2 turn(s). The same types of effects cannot stack.

S3 When the wearer's turn starts, regenerates 10 Energy. If the enemy target has a Weakness implanted by the wearer, increases the wearer's DMG dealt to it by 80%. When an enemy target gets attacked by the wearer, the wearer decreases the target's DEF by 18%, lasting for 2 turn(s). The same types of effects cannot stack.

S4 When the wearer's turn starts, regenerates 10 Energy. If the enemy target has a Weakness implanted by the wearer, increases the wearer's DMG dealt to it by 90%. When an enemy target gets attacked by the wearer, the wearer decreases the target's DEF by 21%, lasting for 2 turn(s). The same types of effects cannot stack.

S5 When the wearer's turn starts, regenerates 10 Energy. If the enemy target has a Weakness implanted by the wearer, increases the wearer's DMG dealt to it by 100%. When an enemy target gets attacked by the wearer, the wearer decreases the target's DEF by 24%, lasting for 2 turn(s). The same types of effects cannot stack.
