Understand Rin Tohsaka
Useful when…
- Consider Second Magic Experiment when Rin has at least 15 Gem Energy or the team has at least 7 Skill Points; it hits all enemies, then uses Energy for repeated random-target attacks.
- Use her Ultimate for its attack against one designated enemy and other enemies, Skill Point recovery, and increase to damage taken by all enemies.
- With Archer, the Joint Follow-Up Attack can deal damage to all enemies and recover Skill Points when its trigger condition is met.
Gem Energy and Second Magic Experiment
Rin enters combat with 20 Gem Energy. When an ally consumes or recovers Skill Points, that ally gains 35% CRIT DMG for 2 turns, and Rin gains 1 Gem Energy per Skill Point consumed or recovered. At 15 or more Gem Energy, or when current Skill Points are 7 or more, her Skill becomes Second Magic Experiment. It first deals Quantum damage to all enemies, then spends 3 Gem Energy per additional hit against a random living enemy. This can repeat for up to 33 cycles and stops if she has insufficient Energy or no living enemy remains. If current Skill Points exceed 2, the Skill consumes points down to 2 and grants 2 Gem Energy for each point consumed.
Attacks and team effects
Bajiquan is a single-target Quantum Basic ATK, and Jeweled Sword Zelretch is a single-target Quantum Skill. An Gal Ta Ki Gal Šè deals Quantum damage to one designated enemy and other enemies, recovers 1 Skill Point, and increases damage taken by all enemies by 10% for 3 turns. With Archer, Freeform Tohsaka Style can trigger after Archer attacks with Caladbolg II: Fake Spiral Sword if current Skill Points are 3 or fewer, or that Skill has been actively used 5 times during Circuit Connection. If the follow-up has not triggered during Rin’s turn, Rin and Archer attack all enemies and recover 4 Skill Points. It can trigger once before Rin’s turn ends; the trigger count resets when her turn ends.
Practical upgrade considerations
As a practical suggestion based on the listed effects, consider investing in the Ultimate and enhanced Skill trace for their multi-target damage effects, and the Talent for its Gem Energy and CRIT DMG mechanics. The Basic ATK may be a lower priority if used less often. Her bonus traces provide CRIT DMG, ATK, and Quantum DMG boosts, with some nodes requiring other traces. Promotion raises her level cap. Skill, Ultimate, and Talent are separate trace tracks; supplied examples show selected upgrade costs, including the final listed step for each of those tracks. These effects do not establish a universal optimal damage ranking.
Conditions and tradeoffs
Second Magic Experiment’s additional hits target random living enemies, so they may not focus the selected target. When the Skill is used above 2 Skill Points, it spends the excess down to 2, which can affect the team’s immediate access to Skill Points. The CRIT DMG increase applies to the ally whose Skill Point consumption or recovery triggers it, not automatically to every ally. The Archer-linked follow-up is conditional and can trigger once per Rin turn. Archer is Quantum and follows The Hunt, Sparkle is Quantum and follows Harmony, and Castorice is Quantum and follows Remembrance; those differences alone do not establish them as substitutes for Rin.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Second Magic Experiment can convert Skill Points above 2 into Gem Energy, but leaves the team at 2 Skill Points when used above that amount.
- The Ultimate recovers a Skill Point and increases all enemies’ damage taken, while its preference depends on the situation.
- The Joint Follow-Up Attack requires Archer and a qualifying Skill Point count or active-use condition.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using Second Magic Experiment without accounting for its Skill Point conversion down to 2.
- Assuming its additional hits focus the selected enemy; they target random living enemies.
- Treating Skill Point-triggered CRIT DMG as a buff for the whole team.
- Counting the Archer-linked Joint Follow-Up Attack as unconditional or more than once per Rin turn.
