Understand Copper Boots
Useful when…
- Wear them for 1 armor point when stronger footwear is unavailable or not needed.
- Add Feather Falling for reduced fall damage, or choose Depth Strider, Frost Walker, or Soul Speed for a relevant movement condition.
- Use Unbreaking or Mending to extend service life.
What protection do they provide?
Copper boots equip in the feet slot and provide 1 armor point, with no listed armor toughness. Their maximum durability is 143. They can be crafted from copper ingots; Java 26.3 also lists them in abandoned camp chests and as possible worn-mob drops.
Which enchantments are useful?
Feather Falling reduces fall damage. Depth Strider improves underwater movement, Frost Walker leaves ice while walking over water, and Soul Speed increases movement speed on soul sand. Depth Strider and Frost Walker cannot be combined. Protection, Projectile Protection, Blast Protection, and Fire Protection are also mutually exclusive, so choose one protection type for the threats you expect. Unbreaking reduces durability consumption; Mending repairs the boots when you obtain experience.
How should you repair or invest?
An anvil and copper ingots restore 25% of maximum durability per ingot, rounded down, while preserving enchantments. Anvil combination of two same-tier boots also preserves enchantments. Crafting or grindstone combination adds the durability together plus 5%, but does not keep enchantments. Armor trims change appearance without changing gameplay strength, so they are cosmetic rather than a protection upgrade.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Only 1 armor point and 143 durability make these basic footwear rather than substantial protection.
- Movement enchantments can specialize them, but Depth Strider and Frost Walker are mutually exclusive.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting armor trims to increase protection; they have no gameplay effect.
- Combining enchanted boots in a crafting grid or grindstone and expecting their enchantments to survive.
- Trying to combine Frost Walker and Depth Strider.
