Understand Diamond Axe
Useful when…
- Break blocks tagged mineable with an axe.
- Strip logs, wood blocks, or bamboo blocks.
- Remove wax or an oxidation level from copper blocks.
- Use a melee hit that disables a shield user's shield for five seconds.
Tool work
The axe is correct for drops from blocks tagged mineable with an axe and has listed speed 8 for those blocks. Breaking a non-instant block costs one durability. Using it on a log, wood block, or bamboo block strips it and costs one durability. On waxed copper it removes wax; otherwise it removes one oxidation level, also costing one durability.
Java combat
Its +8 attack-damage modifier adds to the player's documented base damage for 9 damage per hit. Its attack-speed modifier is -3, corresponding to one-second recovery in the reference. Each attack uses two durability, and attacking a shield user disables shield use for five seconds. The reference says the axe hits harder than a same-tier sword but recovers more slowly, resulting in lower DPS.
Enchantments and repair
Efficiency supports block work; Unbreaking and Mending support durability upkeep. Fortune and Silk Touch are mutually exclusive. In the supplied Java reading, Sharpness, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods are listed as anvil-only, rather than ordinary enchanting-table options. An anvil repair with a diamond restores 25% of maximum durability, rounded down, and preserves enchantments.
Durability tradeoffs
The axe has 1561 maximum durability. Block work uses one durability for a non-instant block, while an attack uses two. Its one-second recovery also means it takes longer between attacks than a faster weapon.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Its axe-block functions include breaking, stripping, and copper scraping, while each weapon attack costs twice the durability of ordinary non-instant block breaking.
- The documented 9 damage per Java hit comes with one-second recovery.
- Repairing it with an anvil uses diamonds; combining two axes is a separate repair method.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Forgetting weapon attacks cost two durability while non-instant block breaking costs one.
- Treating the +8 attack modifier alone as the full Java hit damage.
- Treating Sharpness, Smite, or Bane of Arthropods as ordinary Java enchanting-table options.
- Describing another axe as a repair material rather than combining two axes.
