Understand Golden Axe
Useful when…
- Break axe-mineable blocks quickly, checking whether each block is correct for gold-tool drops.
- Strip logs, wood, or bamboo and remove wax or oxidation from copper.
- Use its charged Java attack when shield disruption is useful.
Mining and block interactions
The tool component lists speed 12 for blocks tagged mineable with an axe, and separately marks blocks incorrect for gold tools as not correct for drops. Check both rules for the block in question; speed does not establish that it yields correct drops. Breaking a block usually costs 1 durability, except for blocks that break instantly. Stripping logs, wood, or bamboo and scraping copper each cost 1 durability.
Java attacks and shields
The main-hand modifiers add 6 attack damage and subtract 3 attack speed. The reference lists a 7 HP full-charge hit and a 1-second recovery time; the modifier alone does not establish that recovery time. An attack costs 2 durability, and attacking a shield user disables shield use for 5 seconds. The axe's slower recovery than a sword of the same tier lowers its sustained damage despite its stronger hit.
Durability, repair, and enchantments
Maximum durability is 32. An anvil repair with a gold ingot restores 25% of maximum durability (8 points); combining two axes in an anvil preserves enchantments. Efficiency increases mining speed. Fortune and Silk Touch are mutually exclusive. The reference lists Sharpness, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods as Java enchantments obtainable at an enchanting table or anvil. It marks Cleaving as combat-test behavior and several other listed enchantments as sword-only, so those are not ordinary Java axe options in this version.
Crafting and practical use
Craft a Golden Axe from a gold ingot and a stick. Its high speed for applicable axe-mineable blocks suits focused wood work, while its short durability makes sustained block breaking or fighting costly. As a weapon, its full-charge hit and shield disruption come with slower recovery and 2 durability lost per attack.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Fast against axe-mineable blocks, but the separate incorrect-for-gold rule affects whether a block yields correct drops.
- A full-charge hit deals 7 HP and can disable shields, but attacks recover slowly and cost 2 durability.
- Maximum durability is 32.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming speed 12 guarantees correct drops from every axe-mineable block.
- Ignoring the 2 durability cost per attack.
- Treating the attack-speed modifier alone as the recovery time.
- Treating combat-test or sword-only enchantments as ordinary Java axe options.
