Understand Netherite Boots
Useful when…
- Use them as durable high-tier foot armor with some knockback resistance.
- Choose Feather Falling for reduced fall damage, or select a movement enchantment to match the route.
What does wearing them provide?
The boots equip in the feet slot and add 3 armor points, 3 armor toughness, and 10% knockback resistance. They have 481 maximum durability. Netherite armor dropped as an item is resistant to fire; the reference specifically notes that the helmet does not lose durability while protecting from fire, so do not assume that additional behavior for these boots.
Which enchantments suit the route?
Feather Falling reduces fall damage. Depth Strider increases underwater movement speed, while Frost Walker leaves an ice trail over water; those two are mutually exclusive. Soul Speed increases movement speed on soul sand. The four Protection variants are also mutually exclusive, so select one damage-reduction specialty rather than planning to stack them.
How are they upgraded and repaired?
Upgrade diamond boots in a smithing table using a Netherite Ingot and Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template. An anvil repair using a Netherite Ingot restores 25% of maximum durability, rounded down, and preserves enchantments. Anvil combination also preserves them. Crafting or grindstone combination adds remaining durability plus 5% of maximum but loses enchantments.
What tradeoff matters most?
The upgrade makes sense when the boots' defensive properties and a chosen boot enchantment are useful enough to justify the Netherite Ingot and template. A trim changes appearance but does not add gameplay strength. Decide between Depth Strider and Frost Walker before investing in one pair.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- A combination of armor, toughness, and knockback resistance makes the boots a substantial defensive slot, but upgrading consumes netherite materials and a template.
- Depth Strider and Frost Walker cannot be combined on the same boots.
- The choice among Protection variants is likewise exclusive.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Trying to combine Frost Walker and Depth Strider on one pair.
- Assuming armor trims improve protection.
- Repairing enchanted boots through crafting or a grindstone and expecting enchantments to persist.
