Understand Netherite Helmet
Useful when…
- Wear it for high-tier head-slot defense and knockback resistance.
- Use Respiration or Aqua Affinity when underwater breathing or mining is the priority.
What does it provide?
The helmet equips in the head slot and adds 3 armor points, 3 armor toughness, and 10% knockback resistance. It has 407 maximum durability. Netherite armor dropped as an item is fire resistant, and this helmet does not lose durability while protecting the player from fire damage.
Which enchantments fit its uses?
Respiration extends underwater breathing time, while Aqua Affinity increases underwater mining speed. Protection, Projectile Protection, Blast Protection, and Fire Protection improve damage reduction against their respective coverage, but those four cannot be combined with one another. Unbreaking and Mending support longevity in different ways: one can negate durability use, and the other repairs the helmet when experience is obtained.
How do you obtain and repair it?
Upgrade a diamond helmet in a smithing table with a Netherite Ingot and Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template. An anvil repair using a Netherite Ingot restores 25% of maximum durability, rounded down, and preserves enchantments. Anvil combination preserves them too. Crafting or grindstone combination adds remaining durability plus 5% of maximum but removes enchantments.
What should you consider before investing?
The helmet combines defensive properties with underwater utility, but upgrading consumes netherite materials and a template. A trim is cosmetic and does not add strength. If using it for underwater work, distinguish Respiration's extra breathing time from Aqua Affinity's mining-speed effect; they solve different problems.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The helmet offers armor, toughness, knockback resistance, and underwater enchantment choices, at the cost of a netherite upgrade.
- Respiration and Aqua Affinity address different underwater constraints and can be considered together.
- Protection variants are mutually exclusive.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming Aqua Affinity extends underwater breathing; Respiration does that.
- Using crafting or grindstone repair on an enchanted helmet and expecting enchantments to remain.
- Expecting armor trims to increase defensive strength.
