Understand Netherite Horse Armor
Useful when…
- Protect an adult horse or zombie horse, including a zombie horse exposed to sunlight.
- Reuse the armor because horse armor has no durability.
- Follow the listed upgrade-track materials when upgrading.
Protection and durability
When equipped, it gives 19 armor points, 3 armor toughness, and 10% knockback resistance. Horse armor has no durability, so normal use does not wear it out. Horse armor also protects zombie horses from burning in sunlight. If a horse dies while wearing it, the armor drops with the horse’s normal loot and saddle, if present.
Eligible horses and equipping
Only adult horses and zombie horses can wear it; baby horses, donkeys, mules, and skeleton horses cannot. In Java, put it in the horse’s armor slot or use it on the horse while holding it. Remove it from the slot or use shears. The item’s equipment data specifies the body slot and horse-armor eligibility.
Upgrade-track materials
The upgrade track lists one Diamond Horse Armor, one Netherite Ingot, and one Smithing Template for a single upgrade. The reference’s smithing recipe table is empty, so it does not establish a recipe or template acquisition method.
Enchanting limits
Horse armor cannot be enchanted in Survival mode. The reference describes some Creative-mode anvil enchantments, but those are not a Survival upgrade path. Other enchantments can be applied but have no effect.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Provides the listed defensive attributes and has no durability loss through ordinary use.
- The upgrade track lists a netherite ingot and smithing template in addition to diamond horse armor.
- Only adult horses and zombie horses can wear it; Survival-mode enchanting is unavailable.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Trying to equip it on a baby horse, donkey, mule, or skeleton horse.
- Expecting horse armor to wear down or need routine repair.
- Treating the listed upgrade materials as a recipe established by the empty reference table.
