Understand Netherite Leggings
Useful when…
- Wear them for their listed armor, toughness, and knockback resistance.
- Use Swift Sneak to increase movement speed while sneaking.
- Repair them with netherite ingots or combine damaged pairs, choosing a method based on whether preserving enchantments matters.
Protection and enchantments
When worn, Netherite Leggings provide 6 armor points, 3 armor toughness, and 10% knockback resistance. They have 555 durability. The reference lists Protection, Projectile Protection, Blast Protection, Fire Protection, Thorns, Swift Sneak, Unbreaking, Mending, and the two curses as applicable enchantments. Swift Sneak increases sneaking movement speed; Unbreaking has a chance to negate durability consumption. The four protection enchantments are mutually exclusive.
Smithing upgrade and trims
Upgrade diamond leggings with one netherite ingot and one smithing template. Armor trims can also be applied with a smithing template and an ingot or crystal, but they do not change gameplay or armor strength.
Repair methods
An anvil can repair leggings with netherite ingots, each restoring 25% of maximum durability rounded down. Alternatively, combining two damaged pairs in an anvil adds their durability plus 5% of maximum durability; this preserves enchantments and costs experience. Combining them in a crafting grid or grindstone also adds durability plus 5%, but does not preserve enchantments.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The smithing upgrade costs a netherite ingot and template.
- Only one of Protection, Projectile Protection, Blast Protection, or Fire Protection can be applied to a pair.
- Crafting-grid or grindstone combination does not preserve enchantments.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Combining mutually exclusive protection enchantments on one pair.
- Using a crafting grid or grindstone on enchanted pairs and expecting enchantments to remain.
- Assuming armor trims improve protection.
