Understand Piglin Head
Useful when…
- Reduce piglin and piglin brute detection range while nearby.
- Place it as decoration or above a note block to play a piglin ambient sound.
- Wear it to hide from other players using the Java locator bar.
Wearing and detection
Wearing the head reduces piglin and piglin brute detection range to half its normal range. This reduction stacks with the reductions from sneaking and Invisibility. The head occupies the head slot, overlays the second layer of the player’s skin, and cannot be swapped by using another headgear item while equipped. In Java, wearing it also hides the wearer from other players using the locator bar.
Placement and utility
Place it on top of a block in one of 16 orientations or on a block side in one of four directions. A redstone-powered placed head flaps its ears. When placed above a note block, it makes the note block play a piglin ambient sound when activated. A dispenser can equip it on a player, mob, or armor stand with an empty head slot in front of the dispenser.
Java survival drop and handling
A piglin drops its head if killed by a charged creeper’s explosion. In Java, a charged creeper blast drops at most one mob head, selected at random from the mobs it kills. A destroyed head drops as an item, including when destroyed by an explosion. A piston destroys it, and a sticky piston cannot pull it. It can be combined with gunpowder and any dye to make a creeper-shaped firework star.
Enchantments and stacking
The item stacks to 64 and can receive Curse of Binding or Curse of Vanishing through an anvil. These are the two enchantments listed for it; the supplied mechanics do not describe them as improving its detection effect.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The detection reduction applies to piglins and piglin brutes, while the locator-bar effect concerns other players in Java.
- Equipping it uses the head slot and it cannot be swapped using another headgear item.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating the reduced detection range as a stated immunity.
- Expecting a Java charged creeper blast to drop more than one mob head.
- Expecting a piston to move the head without destroying it.
