Understand Player Head
Useful when…
- Wear it to hide your location from players using the locator bar.
- Place it on a block as a directional decoration.
- Use a dispenser to equip it on a player, mob, or armor stand whose helmet slot is empty.
- Use Java profile data to choose the skin displayed on the head.
What happens when you wear it?
Wearing a Player Head overlays the second layer of the player’s skin. Like other mob heads, it hides the wearer’s location from players using the locator bar. This concealment applies to the locator bar; the supplied mechanics do not establish concealment from other tracking methods. The item’s equippable component assigns it to the head slot.
How can you place or customize it?
A head can face 16 directions when placed on top of a block and 4 directions when placed on a side. Shift-click to place it on top of or beside a block. In Java, profile data can specify a player skin; the reference describes internet access in connection with loading skin textures. A dispenser can equip the head on a player, mob, or armor stand with an empty helmet slot.
How do you obtain and handle it?
The Java reference lists Creative inventory, pick block, and /give as ways to obtain the head. It stacks to 64 and has no listed durability or repair material. Destroying it drops the head itself, including when an explosion destroys it. The reference says no tool accelerates breaking it, but its breaking-time table mixes Java and Bedrock values and does not establish a Java 26.3 breaking time. A piston destroys the head when it pushes it; a sticky piston cannot pull it.
What enchantments can it take?
The reference lists Curse of Binding I and Curse of Vanishing I as enchantments available through an anvil. It does not specify their effects for this item, so there is no item-specific effect or anvil-cost advice to add here.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Locator-bar concealment applies to players using that bar; it does not establish concealment from other tracking methods.
- The reference discusses internet access for loading skin textures, but does not establish that every profile configuration requires internet.
- A piston destroys the head when it pushes it.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming locator-bar concealment hides the wearer from every tracking method.
- Trying to move a placed head by pushing it with a piston.
