Understand Stone Spear
Useful when…
- Use the jab as a melee attack; the spear's listed reach is 2.0–4.5 blocks.
- Hold use to charge, then collide with a target; charge damage depends on the user's velocity.
- Use a charge collision to dismount a mounted target when the dismount conditions are met.
Jab and reach
The spear can perform a jab attack and then enters a recharge cooldown. Its Java 26.3 attack-range component lists a 2.0-block minimum and 4.5-block maximum reach; this is listed reach, not a guarantee that every jab will hit at those distances. Creative reach is listed separately, up to 6.5 blocks. The mainhand attack damage modifier is 1 and the attack speed modifier is -2.67. The component also lists a 15-tick attack animation; the reference does not describe that duration as changing jab performance.
Charge conditions
Holding the use key lowers the spear into an attack position. Colliding with a target deals damage depending on the user's velocity and can dismount mounted targets. The components list separate conditions: minimum relative speed 4.6 for the damage condition, minimum speed 13.0 for dismounting, and minimum speed 5.1 for knockback. They also list maximum durations of 275, 90, and 180 ticks for those respective conditions. The reference says that after the dismount window, hits no longer dismount targets, and after the knockback window, hits no longer knock targets back but still deal full damage. It does not give a full charge-damage formula.
Durability and repair
The stone spear has 131 durability. Its repair component points to stone-tool materials; the reference describes crafting with a stone-tier block and stick and says cobblestone and its other variants are interchangeable. The item has enchantability 5, and its item tags include melee weapon and Lunge enchantment categories.
Crafting
Craft a stone spear from a stone-tier block and a stick. The recipe notes that cobblestone and its other variants can be used interchangeably.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Charge damage depends on velocity, while dismounting and knockback have their own speed and duration conditions.
- The spear has 131 durability.
- Listed reach and creative reach are distinct values.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not describe the jab as ground-only; the reference does not specify that limitation.
- Treat 2.0–4.5 blocks as listed reach values, not guaranteed hit distances.
- Do not infer a complete charge-damage formula or a damage cutoff from the component thresholds alone.
