Skill books

Skill books multiply experience for a specific skill across a two-level range, with partial reading granting a partial bonus and skill-level restrictions on reading.

How it works

The skill-book page says books exist for all levels of 24 character skills, with a separate volume for each two levels. Its standard progression lists volumes for levels 1–2 through 9–10, with multipliers ×3, ×5, ×8, ×12, and ×16; topic-specific values can vary. Each 10% of pages read provides 10% of the maximum bonus. A book can be read when the character has reached its required skill level; a character already above that range can still read it but may gain no experience boost. Completed books cannot be read again, and progress is saved if reading stops.

Read the supporting references

A source-bounded reference to skill progression, skill books, and recorded skill effects in Project Zomboid. Most detailed skill mechanics come from PZwiki, which warns its skill categorization is based on Build 41 and may be outdated; skill-book details come from a page last updated for 42.13.2. Build 42.20 details are included only where the Steam guide states them. No comparative ranking or current-build verification is provided. Guidance explains the referenced mechanics; it is not a tested damage ranking. Check the stated edition and source version before applying a patch-specific detail.
