Understand Afterburner
Useful when…
- Add a temporary Heat-damage hazard to Core Vent’s exhaust fumes.
- Use the mod when enemies are likely to cross the ignited area.
Effect and trigger
The augment requires Blast damage from Core Vent to ignite the exhaust fumes. At rank 0, the flames last 6 seconds and enemies passing through take 200 Heat damage. At rank 2 they last 10 seconds and deal 400 Heat damage; rank 3 raises those values to 12 seconds and 500 Heat damage. The described damage applies to enemies passing through the flames.
When to equip it
It is an Elytron mod with Zenurik polarity and base drain 6. Consider it when you use Core Vent and can put its exhaust fumes where enemies will pass through them. Its contribution is conditional on both the ability’s Blast damage igniting fumes and enemies crossing the flames; the information does not describe a general Heat bonus for other attacks.
Rank and investment
The mod has three ranks, with listed increases to duration and Heat damage. Rank-up costs are 30, 60, and 120 Endo, plus 1,449, 2,898, and 5,796 credits. Rank it when the longer hazard duration and higher damage matter to your Core Vent use; otherwise, the augment’s benefit depends on enemy movement through its flames.
Limitations
Afterburner does not ignite fumes without Core Vent’s Blast damage, and enemies must pass through the flames to receive the listed Heat damage. Do not mistake the 12-second duration for damage applied continuously to every enemy in range.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Requires Core Vent Blast damage to ignite the exhaust fumes.
- Its listed Heat damage depends on enemies passing through a temporary hazard.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the flames without Core Vent Blast damage.
- Treating the listed Heat damage as an automatic hit on every nearby enemy.
