Understand Cull the Weak
Useful when…
- Build claw damage around targets affected by multiple status types.
- Gain a bonus to non-critical claw hits.
Two effects with different conditions
At maximum rank, Cull the Weak grants +60% Melee Damage per status type affecting the target, plus +240% damage to non-critical hits. These are separate effects: the first scales with how many status types are on the target, while the second specifically concerns hits that do not crit. At rank 0 the values are +10% per status type and +40% for non-critical hits; rank 3 gives +40% and +160%.
Compatibility and rank costs
This is a standard Madurai-polarity mod for Claws, with base drain 4 and maximum rank 5. Listed costs increase from 20 Endo and 966 Credits at rank 0 to 1, to 320 Endo and 15,456 Credits at rank 4 to 5. Higher ranks improve both effects, but the payoff depends on the status types present on targets and how often claw hits are non-critical.
Alternatives serve different roles
Bell Ringer is described as making melee attacks knock enemies down and applying +4 Impact status effects; Frenzied Posture changes the companion's target preference and adds +80% Status Duration. Bite instead adds critical chance and critical damage. These are distinct claw-mod functions, not direct substitutes for Cull the Weak's conditional damage bonuses.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The per-status-type bonus depends on status types already affecting the target.
- The separate +240% bonus applies to non-critical hits, not critical hits.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Counting the per-status bonus without status types affecting the target.
- Applying the non-critical-hit bonus to critical hits.
