Proton Snap

Wall-Latch-triggered melee damage and status mod

Released May 22, 2019

Proton Snap grants a temporary Toxin Damage and Status Chance bonus after you hold a Wall Latch for 2 seconds. Consider it for melee builds that can meet that setup condition and make use of the timed buff.

Understand Proton Snap

Useful when…

  • Melee setups where you can hold a Wall Latch for the required 2 seconds before engaging.
  • Situations where a temporary Toxin Damage and Status Chance bonus is useful.

What triggers the bonus?

Hold a Wall Latch for 2 seconds to activate Proton Snap. At maximum rank, it grants +100% Toxin Damage and +50% Status Chance for 20 seconds. Rank 0 gives +25% Toxin Damage and +12.5% Status Chance for 5 seconds; rank 2 gives +75% and +37.5% for 15 seconds. The duration and both bonuses are conditional on completing the latch setup.

Fit and investment

This is a standard melee mod with Madurai polarity, base drain 6, and maximum rank 3. Fusion costs rise from 30 Endo and 1,449 Credits at rank 0 to 1, to 120 Endo and 5,796 Credits at rank 2 to 3. Higher ranks increase the bonuses and their duration, so investment is most relevant when you can activate and use the buff regularly.

Other melee choices

Virulent Scourge provides +60% Toxin and +60% Status Chance, and Carnis Mandible provides +90% Slash and +60% Status Chance; their listed descriptions do not require the Wall Latch trigger. Condition’s Perfection is an Exilus mod that enables Tennokai and adds +100% Status Chance on Tennokai attacks. These effects and slots differ, so they are alternatives to assess by trigger and intended role rather than interchangeable versions of Proton Snap.

Acquisition

Jupiter’s Ganymede Disruption Rotation C and the named Amalgam, Aurax, and Demolyst enemies are listed sources. The Rotation C entry lists 9.52%; each named enemy entry lists 0.22%.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • The bonus requires a 2-second Wall Latch and lasts for a limited time.
  • It uses a standard melee slot and has base drain 6.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Expecting the buff to activate without holding a Wall Latch for 2 seconds.
  • Forgetting that the maximum-rank buff lasts 20 seconds rather than being permanent.
