Understand Rifle Riven Mod
Useful when…
- Unveil it when you can keep the weapon carrying it in your equipped loadout while completing its challenge.
- After unveiling, assess whether its assigned weapon, bonuses, any penalty, polarity, and Mastery Rank requirement fit your weapon and build.
What does it do before unveiling?
Equipping the received ??? mod makes it Veiled and reveals a challenge. The mod must remain on a non-shotgun primary, and that weapon must be in your equipped loadout while you complete the challenge. The challenge does not reveal or determine which weapon the Riven will be assigned to. While veiled, it provides no bonuses or penalties, uses no mod capacity, takes a Riven slot, and cannot be upgraded.
How should I evaluate the unveiled Riven?
Unveiling reveals the assigned weapon, rolled attributes, polarity, and mod space; the mod also gains its own Mastery Rank requirement. A Riven is assigned to one weapon and its variants. It can have two or three bonuses and may include a negative stat, so judge the complete roll for that assignment rather than treating it as a general rifle bonus. Rivens cannot be equipped alongside another Riven.
When is rerolling worth considering?
Cycling spends Kuva and changes the number of attributes and their final numerical values. It does not change the weapon assignment, rank, polarity, or Mastery Rank requirement; the weapon's disposition constrains the possible attribute values. The old and new versions are shown so you can keep the one you prefer. Since the generic veiled class has no known roll, judge any Kuva investment only after unveiling and assessing the actual result.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Unveiling takes a Riven slot, though the veiled mod uses no mod capacity and grants no effects.
- A negative attribute can impair the weapon even when the bonuses are attractive.
- Cycling costs Kuva and cannot change the assigned weapon or polarity.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not assume the weapon used to complete the challenge will be the Riven's eventual assignment.
- Do not try to equip a veiled Rifle Riven on a shotgun; it is for non-shotgun primaries.
- Do not budget mod capacity or expect bonuses from it while it remains veiled.
- Do not reroll expecting to change its assigned weapon or polarity.
