Understand Shotgun Riven Mod
Useful when…
- Unveil it when you can keep the shotgun carrying it in your equipped loadout while completing its challenge.
- After unveiling, assess whether its assigned shotgun, bonuses, any penalty, polarity, and Mastery Rank requirement suit your intended build.
What does it do before unveiling?
Equipping the received ??? mod makes it Veiled and reveals a challenge. The mod must be equipped on a shotgun, and that weapon must remain in your equipped loadout while you complete the challenge. The challenge does not reveal or determine the Riven's eventual weapon assignment. While veiled, it provides no bonuses or penalties, uses no mod capacity, takes a Riven slot, and cannot be upgraded.
How should I evaluate the unveiled Riven?
Unveiling reveals the assigned weapon, rolled attributes, polarity, and mod space; the Riven also gains its own Mastery Rank requirement. It is assigned to one weapon and its variants, rather than being a universal shotgun bonus. Rivens can have two or three bonuses and may carry a negative stat. Consider the whole roll on its assigned weapon, and remember that a weapon cannot equip another Riven alongside it.
When is rerolling worth considering?
Cycling spends Kuva and changes the number of attributes and their final numerical values. It does not alter the weapon assignment, rank, polarity, or Mastery Rank requirement; the assigned weapon's disposition constrains possible attribute values. The old and new versions are presented for a choice. Since this class has no fixed roll, assess the unveiled result before deciding whether further Kuva investment makes sense.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Unveiling takes a Riven slot, although the veiled mod uses no mod capacity and grants no effects.
- A negative attribute can undermine the benefits of the positive attributes.
- Cycling costs Kuva and cannot change the assigned weapon or polarity.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not assume the shotgun used for the challenge will be the eventual assigned weapon.
- Do not expect benefits, penalties, or mod-capacity use from the veiled mod.
- Do not reroll expecting to change its weapon assignment or polarity.
- Do not equip a second Riven on the same weapon.
