Understand Vital Sense
Useful when…
- Increasing Critical Damage on a Rifle build that benefits from critical hits.
- Using its Madurai polarity when it fits the weapon's mod capacity.
Effect and progression
Vital Sense grants +20% Critical Damage at rank 0, +80% at rank 3, and +120% at rank 5. It increases Critical Damage rather than Critical Chance, so it does not itself make attacks crit more often.
Slot and rank investment
This Rare standard Rifle mod has Madurai polarity, 4 base drain, and maximum rank 5. The rank 4 to 5 example costs 480 Endo and 23,184 Credits. Consider that final increase against its cost and the weapon's need for Critical Damage.
Flawed version and other mod purposes
Flawed Vital Sense offers up to +60% Critical Damage but is explicitly incompatible with Vital Sense. Aerial Ace instead refreshes double jumps on kills while airborne, while Agile Aim adds movement speed while aiming in Conclave; neither is a Critical Damage replacement.
Acquisition listed
The supplied locations include numerous enemy and reward listings. Among them, Eris/Oestrus Rotation C lists a 14.29% chance; the supplied table also includes other rotations with different listed chances.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Critical Damage increases the payoff of critical hits but does not increase Critical Chance.
- Max rank uses additional Endo and Credits and occupies a standard Rifle slot.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting Vital Sense to increase Critical Chance.
- Trying to equip the explicitly incompatible Flawed Vital Sense alongside it.
