Understand Volatile Parasite
Useful when…
- Equip it on a Predasite to add the described maggot behavior.
- Use the higher ranks when the shorter interval and larger listed ranges are useful.
Maggot behavior
Volatile Parasite is a Predasite mod with Penjaga polarity and maximum rank 3. At rank 0, it produces a maggot every 30 seconds; the maggot latches onto the nearest enemy, drawing fire from enemies within 10 m. When it dies, it bursts within 2.5 m, dealing Viral damage equal to 25% of accumulated damage, with 40% additional damage if the enemy dies while latched.
What ranks change
At rank 2, the interval is 20 seconds, the fire-drawing radius is 30 m, burst radius is 7.5 m, and the burst uses 75% of accumulated damage. At rank 3, those values become 15 seconds, 40 m, 10 m, and 100%. The listed 40% bonus applies if the enemy dies while latched; it is separate from the accumulated-damage percentage.
Investment and limits
The three rank steps cost 30, 60, and 120 Endo respectively, with Credits costs of 1,449, 2,898, and 5,796. Ranking improves frequency, ranges, and the accumulated-damage fraction together. Its effect depends on a maggot latching, accumulating damage, and bursting; do not treat the listed burst percentage as a fixed damage amount independent of that accumulation.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The maggot is periodic rather than continuously produced.
- Burst damage depends on accumulated damage and the described latch/death conditions.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Confusing meters with seconds when reading the interval and radii.
- Treating the accumulated-damage percentage and conditional 40% bonus as a guaranteed fixed burst value.
