Understand Zaw Riven Mod
Useful when…
- Unveil it to learn its assigned weapon and rolled attributes before deciding whether to invest in it.
- After unveiling, consider it for its assigned melee weapon or a variant if its actual bonuses and any negative stat suit that weapon.
What happens when you unveil it?
Equipping the received unknown mod makes it Veiled and reveals a challenge. Keep the weapon carrying the Veiled Riven in your equipped loadout while completing that challenge. The challenge does not reveal or determine the eventual weapon assignment. Once unveiled, its assignment, attributes, polarity, mod space, and Mastery Rank requirement are revealed. The roll carries two or three bonuses and may also have a negative stat, but this class entry does not specify any particular effects or values.
What can it fit, and when should you invest?
While veiled, a melee-class Riven can be equipped only on a melee weapon. It uses a Riven slot, but does not use mod capacity, grant bonuses, or allow upgrades. After unveiling, it is assigned to one weapon and its variants and has its own Mastery Rank requirement, ranging from 8 to 16. Evaluate the actual assignment and roll before spending resources: a useful bonus combination may suit that weapon, while a negative stat can be crippling. Rivens can be rerolled with Kuva, but rerolling changes the attributes and may change their number; it does not change the weapon assignment, polarity, rank, or Mastery Rank requirement. You can choose between the old and new roll after cycling.
What should you watch out for?
A Veiled Riven occupies a Riven slot as soon as equipped, even though it gives no bonuses and cannot be upgraded. You cannot equip it alongside another Riven mod. Its polarity is not predictable from its eventual attributes, and the eventual weapon assignment is not the weapon used to complete the unveiling challenge. Do not judge its value from the generic class: inspect the unveiled assignment, bonuses, and any negative stat before deciding whether to keep or reroll it.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Unveiling reveals the specific weapon and roll needed for a meaningful evaluation, but equipping the Veiled mod consumes a Riven slot during the process.
- Kuva cycling can produce a different set or number of attributes, but does not change the assigned weapon or polarity; weigh the new roll against the current one.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the weapon used for the unveiling challenge will be the Riven's eventual assignment.
- Treating the Veiled Riven as a bonus-bearing or upgradeable mod before unveiling.
- Ignoring the Riven slot it occupies while veiled or trying to equip it alongside another Riven.
- Investing in rerolls before inspecting the unveiled weapon assignment and negative stat.
