Dragon Age: Origins

This reference covers the three Origins classes—warrior, rogue, and mage—and their four named specializations each. Specializations give a one-time attribute or combat bonus and open access to related talents; characters may use specialization points to activate them after unlocking them. The source also describes unlock methods, level-based specialization points, and a key distinction between base attributes and specialization modifiers when meeting talent requirements. General ability-system notes explain that spells, talents, and skills have varied implementations, and that some sustained abilities compete for the same stance or form. Awakening specializations and unsupported equipment details are outside this reference.

Common mistakes to avoid

Unlocking is separate from taking a specialization

Specializations first require an unlock through a trainer, manual, or plot event; using one also requires spending a specialization point. Origins characters receive points at levels 7 and 14.

Specialization bonuses do not satisfy talent attribute requirements

The source says specialization bonuses are modifiers, not base attributes. Talents and spells with attribute requirements check base values, so a bonus cannot supply a missing listed base requirement.

Some sustained choices compete for the same slot

The ability-system source lists mutually exclusive shield stances, archery stances, shapeshifting forms, Bard Songs, and weapon enhancements from the same caster. Activating one in a listed group cancels the other.

References & guide scope

A source-bounded reference to the twelve named Origins specializations, their described one-time bonuses and talent access, plus shared specialization unlock and activation rules. Effects are presented as described; the sources do not establish comparative effectiveness. Equipment details are too limited for choice records.

  • This is a descriptive reference based on the supplied passages; specialization descriptions and bonuses are given as recorded, without comparative effectiveness claims.
  • Only the twelve Origins specializations are treated as choice records. Awakening specializations are explicitly expansion-only and are not included.
  • The sources do not provide enough detailed equipment effects to support ten equipment choice records. Steam's Blood Dragon Armor and Stone Prisoner descriptions are not expanded into equipment mechanics here.
  • Exact costs, full talent lists, attribute requirements, spell formulas, and edition-specific patch behavior are not comprehensively covered. No latest-patch or meta verification is claimed.
