Understand Beidou
Useful when…
- Countering attacks with Tidecaller and releasing it after building its hit-based damage bonus.
- Using Stormbreaker while the active character lands repeated Normal or Charged Attack hits.
- Adding Electro damage and damage reduction with an 80-Energy Burst.
- Reducing swimming Stamina consumption for the party.
How does Tidecaller reward timing?
Tidecaller’s Press deals Electro damage. Holding raises a shield whose maximum absorption scales with Beidou’s Max HP and whose Electro absorption efficiency is 250%. The hold ends with an Electro attack when released or when its duration ends. Its damage increases according to attacks Beidou takes during the hold, with the greatest bonus reached after two hits. Retribution grants that maximum bonus when Tidecaller is used at the precise moment Beidou is hit. The shield also applies Electro to Beidou when activated, so its defensive action has an elemental application condition to keep in mind.
What does Stormbreaker add?
Stormbreaker deals nearby Electro damage and creates Thunderbeast’s Targe for 15 seconds at the listed level-one parameters. While active, Normal and Charged Attack hits create a lightning discharge that can jump between opponents. The Burst can trigger at most one discharge per second. It also decreases damage taken and increases resistance to interruption; the listed damage reduction is 20%. Its value therefore depends on actually landing Normal or Charged Attack hits during the Burst, and on opponents being available for the discharge to jump between. It has an 80 Energy cost and a 20-second cooldown at the listed parameters.
What should you invest in?
If you mainly use Beidou for Stormbreaker’s off-field attack-triggered effect, prioritize the Burst talent. Raise Tidecaller when its counter damage and shield matter to your play. Her own Normal Attack talent is more relevant if she spends time dealing damage with her claymore attacks. Ascension uses Electro gems, Noctilucous Jade, and Raven Insignias. The listed talent progression uses Gold books and Treasure Hoarder Insignias; the final shown step also uses Mora, a Crown of Insight, and Dvalin’s Sigh. These are separate upgrade tracks, so investment can follow the contribution you rely on.
What are the limitations and alternatives?
Stormbreaker’s discharge is triggered by Normal or Charged Attack hits, not by every kind of damage, and the one-per-second limit caps its trigger rate. Tidecaller’s greatest damage bonus requires taking two hits during the hold, while its shield scales with Max HP and its attack’s bonus comes from the hit count. Her swimming passive reduces the party’s swimming Stamina consumption by 20%, but does not stack with passives that provide the exact same effect.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Stormbreaker needs Normal or Charged Attack hits to trigger discharges, and its trigger rate is limited to one per second.
- Tidecaller’s maximum counter bonus rewards taking two hits during the hold, which can make its use more timing-sensitive than a press.
- The hold shield scales with Max HP while the counter gains damage from taking hits; those mechanics reward different considerations.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting Stormbreaker to trigger discharges from skill damage instead of Normal or Charged Attack hits.
- Holding Tidecaller through more than two hits in expectation of a larger hit-count bonus.
- Forgetting that Tidecaller applies Electro to Beidou when its shield activates.
- Assuming Beidou’s swimming Stamina passive stacks with an identical passive.
