Understand Ganyu
Useful when…
- Firing fully charged Frostflake Arrows for direct and bloom damage.
- Placing her Burst where active party members can use its Cryo DMG Bonus.
- Using Ice Lotus to draw nearby opponents away while repositioning.
Frostflake Arrow handling
Ganyu’s aimed shot has two charge levels: the first deals Cryo damage, while the second fires a Frostflake Arrow that blooms after hitting its target for additional AoE Cryo damage. After firing a Frostflake Arrow, Undivided Heart increases the CRIT Rate of subsequent Frostflake Arrows and their blooms by 20% for 5 seconds. The benefit rewards continuing charged shots within that window. Her ordinary bow attacks and plunge are separate modes and do not use the Frostflake charge-level effect.
Skill and Burst utility
Trail of the Qilin makes Ganyu dash backward and leave an Ice Lotus that taunts surrounding opponents. The lotus’s endurance scales with her Max HP; when destroyed or when its duration ends, it deals AoE Cryo damage. Celestial Shower costs 60 Energy and lasts 15 seconds, raining Cryo shards on opponents in an area. Harmony Between Heaven and Earth grants active party members within that area a 20% Cryo DMG Bonus. The Burst therefore supports Cryo damage only while allies are within its area, while the Skill provides a taunt and a repositioning action.
Investment choices
For a charged-shot approach, the Normal Attack talent track covers her aimed shots and Frostflake Arrow. For an area-focused role, her Burst track is relevant to the repeated shard damage; the Skill track improves the lotus hit and damage. Choose investment according to which attack mode you actually use, since raising all three talent tracks has separate Mora and material costs. The listed final talent step costs a Crown of Insight and two Shadow of the Warrior. Her passive also refunds 15% of ore used when crafting bow-type weapons, a crafting benefit separate from combat.
Limitations and alternatives
The Frostflake bloom requires the second charge level and a hit on the target; a first-level aimed shot does not have that described bloom. Her Burst’s Cryo bonus is limited to active party members in its area. Diona and Aloy share Cryo and bow traits with Ganyu; Mika shares Cryo but uses a polearm.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Charged-shot damage requires time to reach Frostflake charge level 2.
- The Cryo DMG Bonus applies to active allies within Celestial Shower’s area.
- Her Skill’s taunt draws opponents toward the lotus, which can affect their positioning.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the Frostflake bloom from a first-level aimed shot.
- Standing outside Celestial Shower’s area and expecting its active-character Cryo bonus.
- Treating the Skill’s Ice Lotus as a shield; the described effect is a taunt with HP-based endurance.
