Understand Wanderer

Useful when…

  • Sustained Anemo Normal and Charged Attack damage while hovering.
  • Taking advantage of up to two elemental buffs triggered when his Skill contacts party-applied Hydro, Pyro, Cryo, or Electro.
  • Exploration that benefits from mid-air movement.

How his hovering attacks work

Hanega: Song of the Wind deals Anemo damage, lifts Wanderer into Windfavored, and provides 100 Kuugoryoku Points at talent level 1. During the state, Normal Attacks become Kuugo: Fushoudan and Charged Attacks become Kuugo: Toufukai; both gain damage and area, and remain Normal and Charged Attack damage for effects that refer to those attack types. Charged attacks do not consume Stamina. The state steadily uses Kuugoryoku; sprinting faster or rising higher spends additional points, so movement competes with attack time. It ends when points run out or when the Skill is cast again. His Burst deals five instances of AoE Anemo damage and ends Windfavored if used during it.

Elemental contacts and positioning

When the Skill contacts a party-applied element as it is unleashed, Jade-Claimed Flower grants an effect for that Windfavored instance: Hydro raises the Kuugoryoku cap by 20, Pyro increases ATK by 30%, Cryo increases CRIT Rate by 20%, and Electro restores 0.8 Energy when his converted Normal or Charged Attacks hit, at most once every 0.2 seconds. Only two different elemental effects can be active together. To pursue one, apply that element before activating the Skill and make sure the contact occurs at activation. Gales of Reverie can also reward hits during Windfavored: attacks have a chance to enable a cost-free mid-air acceleration that fires four Anemo arrows, with the chance increasing after misses. These mechanics reward staying in the air and attacking while managing movement expenditure.

Investment priorities

The Normal Attack track improves his regular attacks and the converted attacks in Windfavored, making it a direct priority for a damage-focused build. The Skill track improves the Skill and converted attack damage, so it is also relevant to his core field time. The Burst is a separate source of five-hit AoE damage; invest in it when you use it regularly, bearing in mind it ends the hovering state. Ascension improves the character and requires the listed Vayuda Turquoise, Rukkhashava Mushrooms, Perpetual Caliber, and Handguards at the shown stages. His passive also reduces Mora spent ascending Bows and Catalysts by 50%.

Limits and common mistakes

Windfavored does not allow Plunging Attacks, and spending Kuugoryoku on repeated sprinting or jumping shortens the time available to attack. A second Skill cast or Burst ends the state, so do not assume either can be used without sacrificing the current hovering window. The elemental passives require contact at Skill activation; applying an element afterward does not establish the listed buff for that instance. His normal and charged attacks are the relevant attack types while hovering, so effects limited to other attack categories should not be assumed to enhance them.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • Using Kuugoryoku to gain altitude or accelerate trades time in Windfavored for movement.
  • Using the Burst during Windfavored ends the state early.
  • The elemental-contact passive allows at most two different buffs at once.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating mid-air sprinting and height gain as free; both spend Kuugoryoku.
  • Casting the Burst during Windfavored without accounting for its immediate end.
  • Expecting elemental-contact buffs when the element was not present at Skill activation.

Hanega: Song of the Wind · Elemental skill

Concentrates the power of the winds to break free from the shackles of the earth, dealing AoE Anemo DMG before leaping into the air and entering the Windfavored state.

Windfavored
The Wanderer cannot perform Plunging Attacks in this state. When he uses Normal and Charged Attacks, they will be converted into Kuugo: Fushoudan and Kuugo: Toufukai respectively; the DMG they deal and their AoE will be increased, and their DMG will be considered Normal and Charged Attack DMG respectively. Kuugo: Toufukai will not consume Stamina.
The Wanderer will hover persistently during this time. While this state is active, the Wanderer's movements gain the following properties:
·Persistently consumes Kuugoryoku Points to maintain this hovering state.
·When sprinting, additional Kuugoryoku Points will be consumed for the Wanderer to accelerate mid-air. Holding sprint will cause persistent Kuugoryoku Point consumption to maintain speed. This effect will replace his default sprint.
·Jumping expends extra Kuugoryoku Points to increase hovering height. Holding jump will cause persistent Kuugoryoku Point consumption to keep increasing hovering height.

Running out of Kuugoryoku Points will end the Windfavored state.
A second cast during the duration of Windfavored will also end it.

If Hanega: Song of the Wind comes into contact with Hydro/Pyro/Cryo/Electro when it is unleashed, this instance of the Windfavored state will obtain buffs according to the contacted element(s):
·Hydro: Kuugoryoku Point cap increases by 20.
·Pyro: ATK increases by 30%.
·Cryo: CRIT Rate increases by 20%.
·Electro: When Normal and Charged Attacks hit an opponent, 0.8 Energy will be restored. Energy can be restored this way once every 0.2s.

You can have up to 2 different kinds of these buffs simultaneously.

Gales of Reverie

When the Wanderer hits opponents with Kuugo: Fushoudan or Kuugo: Toufukai in his Windfavored state, he has a 16% chance to obtain the Descent effect: The next time the Wanderer accelerates in mid-air while in this instance of the Windfavored state, this effect will be removed, this acceleration instance will not consume any Kuugoryoku Points, and he will fire off 4 wind arrows that deal 35% of his ATK as Anemo DMG each.
For each Kuugo: Fushoudan and Kuugo: Toufukai that does not produce this effect, the next attack of those types will have a 12% increased chance of producing it. The calculation of the effect production is done once every 0.1s.

Strum the Swirling Winds

Mora expended when ascending Bows and Catalysts is decreased by 50%.
