Understand Calamity Queller
Useful when…
- ATK-scaling damage from off-field characters after they use an Elemental Skill.
- Elemental damage builds that can make use of its unconditional elemental damage bonus.
What does it do?
At refinement 1, the weapon grants 12% All Elemental DMG Bonus. Using an Elemental Skill starts Consummation for 20 seconds; it adds 3.2% ATK per second, up to six stacks. When its wielder is off-field, that ATK increase is doubled. The increasing bonus rewards a Skill use followed by time off-field, while the elemental damage bonus does not require a condition.
When is it useful?
It is a natural fit when the wielder deals ATK-scaling elemental damage and commonly leaves the field after using their Skill. The off-field condition matters: a character who stays on-field does not receive the doubled ATK increase. The effect is tied to Skill use, so builds that rarely use a Skill have less opportunity to benefit from Consummation.
What are the alternatives?
The Catch has Energy Recharge as its secondary stat and specifically improves Elemental Burst damage and Burst CRIT Rate, so it serves Burst-focused needs rather than reproducing Calamity Queller's Skill-triggered, off-field ATK effect. Ballad of the Fjords instead grants Elemental Mastery when the party has at least three different Elemental Types. Beginner's Protector has no secondary stat or refinement effect listed, so it does not match these specialized bonuses.
How should you invest?
Ascension raises the weapon through stages 0–6 and is the direct progression track for the weapon. Refinement consumes another copy at each step; it raises both the elemental damage bonus and Consummation's per-second ATK gain. At refinement 1 those values are 12% and 3.2%; at refinement 5 they are 24% and 6.4%. Refinement is a substantial copy commitment, so weigh it against keeping another copy available.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Consummation requires an Elemental Skill and lasts 20 seconds, so its value depends on Skill use and field time.
- Its strongest ATK effect requires the wielder to be off-field.
- Refinement consumes copies of a five-star weapon.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the doubled Consummation bonus applies while the wielder is on-field.
- Expecting Consummation without using an Elemental Skill.
- Treating The Catch's Burst-specific bonuses or Ballad of the Fjords' party condition as equivalent effects.
