Understand "The Catch"
Useful when…
- A polearm character whose Burst contributes substantially to damage.
- A character who values Energy Recharge alongside Burst damage and Burst CRIT Rate.
What does it boost?
Its passive applies specifically to Elemental Burst damage and Elemental Burst CRIT Rate. R1 grants 16% Burst damage and 6% Burst CRIT Rate; R5 grants 32% and 12%. The weapon's secondary stat is Energy Recharge. Normal Attacks and Skill damage do not receive the stated passive bonus.
Who makes use of the combination?
A polearm wielder that needs Energy Recharge and deals a meaningful share of damage through its Burst can use both the secondary stat and passive. If the character's damage instead centers on another attack type, the damage part of the passive will not directly improve that source. No particular team or Burst cost is required by the listed weapon effect.
How should it be improved?
Ascension uses the listed Mora and weapon materials. Refinement increases the Burst bonuses in steps; the listed example costs use an Ako's Sake Vessel and Mora, rather than a sacrifice copy of The Catch. R5 is the largest listed passive, but compare the cost in refinement materials with other weapon and character investments before pursuing every step.
What do other polearms emphasize?
Ballad of the Fjords gives CRIT Rate and conditional Elemental Mastery when the party has at least three different Elemental Types. Beginner's Protector has no secondary stat or listed passive. Black Tassel provides HP and extra damage against slimes. These differ in stats and narrow conditions, so each is relevant only when its particular benefit fits the character or situation.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Its damage and CRIT bonuses apply to Elemental Bursts only.
- The Energy Recharge secondary stat does not by itself guarantee that a character's Burst is the best place to invest damage.
- Refinement requires the named refinement material and Mora.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Counting the passive as a Normal Attack or Skill damage increase.
- Assuming refinement consumes duplicate copies; the listed costs use Ako's Sake Vessel.
