Understand Compound Bow
Useful when…
- Sustained physical Normal Attacks from a bow wielder who can build and maintain stacks.
- A Normal Attack pattern that benefits from increased ATK and Normal ATK SPD.
How do its stacks work?
At refinement 1, Normal or Charged Attack hits grant 4% ATK and 1.2% Normal ATK SPD for six seconds, up to four stacks. The effect can occur once every 0.3 seconds. Its Physical DMG Bonus secondary stat supports physical damage, while the passive's speed increase specifically names Normal ATK SPD; it does not say Charged Attack speed increases. Repeated hits can build up to the cap while keeping the short duration active.
Who benefits from the handling?
Consider Compound Bow when the wielder spends time landing Normal or Charged Attack hits and the resulting ATK and Normal Attack speed improve their intended damage. The Physical DMG Bonus makes it especially aligned with physical damage, but its passive is not restricted to physical hits. A character focused on Skill or Burst damage has fewer reasons to value the hit-triggered Normal Attack speed.
How do other bows differ?
Alley Hunter builds general damage while its wielder is off-field, then sheds the bonus after more than four seconds on-field. Amos' Bow specifically boosts Normal and Charged Attack damage and scales its additional bonus with arrow flight time. Aqua Simulacra raises HP and grants a damage increase while opponents are nearby, including off-field. These options do not reproduce Compound Bow's hit-built ATK and Normal ATK SPD.
What should you refine?
Ascension advances the weapon through stages 0–6. Refinement 1 to 5 raises each stack's ATK from 4% to 8% and Normal ATK SPD from 1.2% to 2.4%, while the six-second duration, four-stack cap, and 0.3-second trigger limit remain. Refinement consumes another copy, so it is most useful when the wielder can maintain stacks through regular hits.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The passive requires Normal or Charged Attack hits and stacks last six seconds.
- The passive's speed bonus is Normal ATK SPD, not Charged Attack speed.
- Refinement consumes another copy.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming Charged Attack hits increase Charged Attack speed; the stated speed bonus is for Normal Attacks.
- Expecting more than four stacks or a stack duration longer than six seconds.
- Treating the passive's ATK and speed stacks as an unconditional opening bonus.
