Understand Covenant of Frost and Snow
Useful when…
- A bow wielder whose reaction damage benefits from Elemental Mastery and who can trigger the Skill condition reliably.
- A build that values the temporary Elemental Mastery window after Skill use more than an ATK or damage bonus.
What triggers the bonus?
Using an Elemental Skill activates the Elemental Mastery increase for 12 seconds. The trigger is Skill use, not a Skill hit, and the listed effect applies to the equipping character. It gives 120 Elemental Mastery at R1 and 240 at R5; no additional trigger, stack, or refresh behavior is specified here.
When does it fit?
Consider it for a bow wielder whose damage depends on reactions that benefit from Elemental Mastery and who can use an Elemental Skill often enough to make use of the 12-second window. Its DEF secondary stat and passive do not establish it as a general ATK damage bow. For comparison, Alley Hunter has an ATK secondary stat and builds DMG while its wielder is off-field, then loses that bonus during extended on-field time; Amos' Bow instead boosts Normal and Charged Attack DMG, with extra benefit based on arrow flight time. Those conditions serve different attack patterns.
Ascension and refinement
Weapon ascension progresses through six stages; examples include 5,000 Mora and early materials for stage 0 to 1, and 45,000 Mora plus later materials for stage 5 to 6. Refinement requires a duplicate copy and Mora: the listed examples range from 1,000 Mora for R1 to R2 to 8,000 Mora for R4 to R5. Refinement raises the temporary Elemental Mastery bonus in 30-point increments, so prioritize it only if this passive matters to the wielder and spare copies are available.
Limits and common misplays
The passive lasts 12 seconds after Skill use, so a long gap between Skills can leave the wielder without the bonus. Do not treat the DEF secondary stat as an offensive stat for builds that scale around ATK, or assume that the passive improves every attack type directly. Aqua Simulacra is a different option: its damage increase requires opponents nearby, but works on- or off-field, and it also increases HP; it is not a like-for-like Elemental Mastery alternative.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- DEF secondary stat may be poorly aligned with ATK-focused damage.
- Elemental Mastery is temporary and requires Elemental Skill use.
- Refinement consumes duplicate copies for a larger temporary bonus.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the passive to trigger from a Skill hit requirement; the stated trigger is using the Skill.
- Assuming the 12-second Elemental Mastery increase is permanent or automatically renewed.
- Refining before deciding whether the temporary Elemental Mastery is valuable enough to spend duplicate copies.
