Disaster and Remorse

On-field polearm damage weapon with alternating attack-type bonuses

Released Jun 9, 2026

Disaster and Remorse is a 5-star polearm whose Skill-triggered effect rewards an on-field wielder who alternates Normal or Charged Attacks with Skill or Burst hits. It grants separate, short-lived bonuses for those two attack categories, then extends each bonus through hits from the opposite category. Consider it when the wielder can use both types of attacks and remain on field during its 17-second effect window.

Understand Disaster and Remorse

Useful when…

  • Use it on an on-field polearm damage dealer who regularly lands Normal or Charged Attacks and Skill or Burst hits.
  • Consider its Hexerei: Secret Rite clause when the character meets that named condition; the weapon's listed damage boosts are then increased by 75%.

Starting the effect and maintaining both bonuses

At Refinement 1, using an Elemental Skill starts Path of Conflict for 17 seconds and grants two separate bonuses for 3 seconds each: Unforgivable increases Normal and Charged Attack DMG by 40%, while Irreparable increases Elemental Skill and Burst DMG by 40%. Path of Conflict can trigger once every 18 seconds. During it, a Normal or Charged Attack hit extends Irreparable by 1 second; a Skill or Burst hit extends Unforgivable by 1 second. Each extension can occur once every 0.1 seconds. This cross-extension means the wielder needs hits from both categories to keep both short bonuses active. When Path of Conflict ends or the wielder leaves the field, both bonuses are removed.

Who can use it well

The effect is most relevant to a polearm wielder who deals meaningful damage through both ordinary attacks and Skill or Burst hits, can begin with a Skill, and stays on field to land the extending hits. A character focused on only one damage category will not use the other bonus as effectively. The weapon's CRIT Rate secondary stat is a general offensive stat, while the passive's specialized value depends on the wielder's attack pattern.

Refinement and ascension

Refinement raises each of the two damage bonuses by 10 percentage points per rank, from 40% at R1 to 80% at R5. The listed refinement steps consume another copy of the weapon, so this is a substantial duplicate investment; weigh that cost against the passive's fit for the wielder. Ascension advances the weapon through six stages using Mora and materials, with example costs provided for early, middle, and final stages.

Conditions and alternatives

Leaving the field removes both temporary bonuses even while Path of Conflict would otherwise remain, so it is poorly suited to a rotation that switches away before the damage window is used. The Hexerei: Secret Rite clause increases the listed DMG boosts by 75% when applicable; it does not change the stated durations or trigger interval. The Catch is more narrowly focused on Burst DMG and Burst CRIT Rate, while Ballad of the Fjords grants Elemental Mastery if the party has at least three different Elemental Types. Those effects serve different builds and do not reproduce this weapon's attack-type interaction.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • Both bonuses begin with only 3 seconds of duration and rely on cross-category hits for extensions.
  • The temporary bonuses are removed if the wielder leaves the field or Path of Conflict ends.
  • The effect has an 18-second trigger interval, so it cannot be restarted immediately after every Skill use.
  • Refinement requires additional copies for incremental increases to both bonuses.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Switching the wielder off field and expecting the two temporary bonuses to persist.
  • Using only one attack category and expecting it to extend its own corresponding bonus; each category extends the other bonus.
  • Assuming the Hexerei clause changes duration or trigger timing.
