Understand Mitternachts Waltz
Useful when…
- Consider it for a bow user whose damage includes both Normal Attacks and Elemental Skills.
- Its reciprocal effects can support alternating between the two attack types, provided each triggering hit lands on an opponent.
What triggers each bonus?
At R1, hitting an opponent with a Normal Attack raises Elemental Skill damage by 20% for 5 seconds. Hitting an opponent with an Elemental Skill raises Normal Attack damage by 20% for 5 seconds. These are separate, reciprocal conditions: the listed effect does not say that either bonus activates merely from using the corresponding action without a hit. The weapon also has Physical DMG Bonus as its secondary stat, distinct from its conditional Skill and Normal Attack bonuses.
What attack pattern makes it useful?
It fits a bow wielder who deals meaningful damage through both Normal Attacks and Elemental Skills and can land hits with each. Normal Attack hits enable the Skill bonus, and Skill hits enable the Normal Attack bonus. A character who depends on only one of those damage sources will make less use of the reciprocal passive. The provided effect does not list a Charged Attack or Burst damage increase.
What are the investment tradeoffs?
Ascension raises the weapon through six stages; listed example costs cover stages one, four, and six. Refinement uses a duplicate R1 copy and Mora. Refinement raises both bonuses from 20% at R1 to 40% at R5, while their 5-second durations remain unchanged. This investment is most relevant when both triggers fit the wielder's actual attacks; if one side of the reciprocal effect is rarely used, refining increases a bonus that may see little use.
How does its passive differ from other Bows?
Alley Hunter builds damage while its wielder remains off-field and loses that bonus after more than 4 seconds on-field, so it suits a different field-time condition. Amos' Bow explicitly boosts Normal and Charged Attack damage, with additional damage based on arrow flight time. Aqua Simulacra increases damage while opponents are nearby and works on-field or off-field. None of these listed effects uses Mitternachts Waltz's reciprocal Normal Attack hit and Skill hit triggers.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Each bonus lasts 5 seconds, so its value depends on landing the triggering hit and using the supported damage type during its window.
- Its passive covers Normal Attack and Elemental Skill damage, not Charged Attack or Burst damage by name.
- Physical DMG Bonus is separate from the reciprocal passive and may not align with every wielder's damage.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the Skill bonus to trigger from using a Normal Attack without hitting an opponent.
- Expecting Charged Attacks or Bursts to receive the named Normal Attack or Skill damage bonuses.
- Refining it for a character who rarely lands one of the two required trigger types.
