Polar Star

CRIT Rate bow with attack-mode stack building

Released Oct 13, 2021

Polar Star is a five-star bow with a CRIT Rate secondary stat. Its passive increases Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG and grants separately counted Ashen Nightstar stacks when hits from Normal Attacks, Charged Attacks, Elemental Skills, or Elemental Bursts land. The stacks last 12 seconds and increase ATK according to their total count.

Understand Polar Star

Useful when…

  • Support damage from the listed attack modes while building Ashen Nightstar stacks.
  • Gain CRIT Rate from the secondary stat and Skill/Burst DMG from its passive.

Stats and passive

Polar Star has 45.9364 base ATK and CRIT Rate as its secondary stat. At Rank 1, Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG increase by 12%. A hit from a Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill, or Elemental Burst grants one Ashen Nightstar stack for 12 seconds. Stacks generated by each of these four modes are counted independently. At Rank 1, ATK increases by 10/20/30/48% for one/two/three/four stacks; at Rank 5, it increases by 20/40/60/96%.

Using the stacks

The passive rewards landing hits from the listed modes within the 12-second duration. Each mode’s stack is counted independently, and the ATK increase depends on the total number of stacks. Skill and Burst hits also benefit from their direct DMG bonus.

Ascension and refinement

Ascension progresses from stage 0 through 6; the listed cost examples cover 0→1, 3→4, and 5→6. Refinement increases the Skill/Burst DMG bonus and ATK granted at each stack count. Each refinement step uses a duplicate copy, while ascension is a separate improvement track.

Comparing bow effects

Alley Hunter’s DMG bonus builds while its wielder is off field and falls after the wielder spends more than four seconds on field. Amos’ Bow boosts Normal and Charged Attack DMG, with additional DMG based on arrow flight time. Aqua Simulacra increases HP and grants a DMG bonus when opponents are nearby, whether the wielder is on or off field. These options have different triggers from Polar Star’s independently counted attack-mode stacks.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • Its ATK increase depends on the number of Ashen Nightstar stacks.
  • Stacks last 12 seconds.
  • Refinement consumes duplicate copies.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Ignoring the 12-second stack duration.
  • Treating the comparison weapons’ triggers as if they were Polar Star’s stack effects.
