Understand Skyward Spine
Useful when…
- Adding Energy Recharge and CRIT Rate to a polearm wielder.
- Making repeated Normal or Charged hits to attempt its periodic AoE effect.
What stats and effects does it provide?
At R1, it increases CRIT Rate by 8% and Normal ATK SPD by 12%. Normal and Charged Attack hits have a 50% chance to trigger a vacuum blade dealing 40% of ATK as damage in a small AoE, with a two-second limit between triggers. At R5, CRIT Rate reaches 16% and blade damage reaches 100% of ATK. The attack-speed bonus remains 12%, the chance remains 50%, and the two-second limit remains unchanged.
When is the passive relevant?
The vacuum blade is tied to Normal and Charged hits; it is not a general bonus to Skill or Burst damage. A wielder whose attack pattern includes repeated hits can attempt the proc while Energy Recharge and CRIT Rate support the weapon's other role. The Catch instead raises Burst damage and Burst CRIT Rate. Ballad of the Fjords grants Elemental Mastery only with at least three different Elemental Types in the party. Beginner's Protector has no secondary stat or listed passive, making it a much simpler low-rarity comparison.
How much should refinement matter?
Ascension takes the weapon through six stages. Refinement consumes a duplicate and improves CRIT Rate and the blade's damage ratio, but not the 50% chance, Normal ATK SPD, or two-second restriction. Ascension improves the weapon's level; refinement is a narrower improvement to two listed values, so preserve a duplicate if its value as another weapon matters more.
What is the proc limitation?
A 50% chance means an eligible hit does not guarantee a blade, and the two-second limit prevents a blade on every rapid hit. The effect specifically names Normal and Charged hits, so do not count it as a Skill or Burst trigger.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The blade is chance-based and limited to once every two seconds.
- Refinement does not improve the proc chance, attack speed, or cooldown.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the blade triggers on every rapid attack or that refinement raises its 50% chance.
- Applying the Normal ATK SPD bonus to Charged Attacks; the stated speed effect names Normal Attacks.
