Understand Staff of the Scarlet Sands
Useful when…
- Use on an Elemental Mastery-focused polearm damage dealer.
- Consider it when the wielder can land repeated Elemental Skill hits during combat.
How the effect builds
At R1, the wielder gains bonus ATK equal to 52% of their Elemental Mastery. An Elemental Skill hit grants a 10-second effect that adds another 28% of Elemental Mastery as ATK, up to three stacks. Thus, the Skill-hit portion can add up to three separate increments while active; the weapon’s description does not specify a special stack-building interval. Refinement increases both conversion rates.
Who can use it
The CRIT Rate secondary stat and EM-to-ATK conversion favor a damage build that can make use of Elemental Mastery as well as ATK. The Skill-hit condition means a wielder whose Skill does not hit opponents may miss the additional stacks, though the base conversion remains. Ballad of the Fjords also combines CRIT Rate with EM, but its EM increase instead requires at least three different Elemental Types in the party.
Investment
Ascension uses weapon materials and Mora to raise the weapon’s level. Refinement consumes another copy and Mora to improve the EM conversion; prioritize it only if the stronger conversion is worth that copy cost to your account. The Catch offers a different role, with Energy Recharge and bonuses specifically to Elemental Burst damage and Burst CRIT Rate.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The additional ATK depends on Elemental Skill hits and its stacks last only 10 seconds.
- The strongest use depends on having Elemental Mastery to convert.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Counting the Skill-hit conversion as active without hitting an opponent with an Elemental Skill.
- Treating the three-stack cap as a single bonus rather than up to three added EM-based increments.
