The Daybreak Chronicles

Bow for a damage dealer who can exploit an initial out-of-combat bonus and build damage by repeatedly hitting with the relevant attack types.

Released Dec 3, 2025

The Daybreak Chronicles has CRIT DMG and an unusual damage bonus that changes between encounters and combat. Three seconds after leaving combat it grants 60% Normal Attack, Skill, and Burst damage at R1, but this bonus decays by 10 percentage points per second in combat until it reaches zero. Hits then build the matching attack-type bonus back up. Consider it when the wielder can use those hit triggers; parties with Hexerei: Secret Rite effects change the hit-trigger behavior to boost all three types.

Understand The Daybreak Chronicles

Useful when…

  • A bow wielder whose damage uses Normal Attacks, Elemental Skills, and/or Elemental Bursts and can hit often to restore the matching bonus.
  • A party with Hexerei: Secret Rite effects, when the wielder can take advantage of the specified all-types hit bonus.

How does the bonus change when combat starts?

At R1, three seconds after leaving combat the wielder gains 60% damage for Normal Attacks, Elemental Skills, and Elemental Bursts. Once in combat, the bonus loses 10 percentage points each second until it reaches zero. Hitting with one of those attack types increases the bonus for the corresponding type by 10 percentage points, up to 60%; each attack type can trigger its effect once every 0.1 seconds. These hit triggers can work off-field. At higher refinements the starting cap and per-second decay increase, reaching 120% and 20 percentage points at R5.

What changes with Hexerei: Secret Rite?

When the party possesses Hexerei: Secret Rite effects, hits with a Normal Attack, Skill, or Burst increase the bonus for all three damage types by 20% at R1 instead of only the corresponding type. This becomes 40% at R5. The condition is the party possessing those effects; do not treat the all-types increase as the default behavior without it.

Who benefits from CRIT DMG and its timing?

The bow's secondary stat is CRIT DMG. Its passive rewards attack types that actually land hits, so a wielder can rebuild the corresponding bonus by using those sources. The weapon can also trigger on off-field hits, which matters for a character whose Skill or Burst continues hitting after switching away. Its initial out-of-combat bonus should not be mistaken for a stable combat value because it decays each second.

How does it compare with other bows?

Alley Hunter builds damage while its wielder is off-field, then loses that bonus after the wielder stays on-field for more than four seconds. Amos' Bow focuses on Normal and Charged Attack damage, with an additional arrow-flight-time effect. Aqua Simulacra gives CRIT DMG and a damage bonus when opponents are nearby, including off-field. Each has its own timing or proximity condition; none duplicates The Daybreak Chronicles' hit-type rebuilding mechanic.

Where should investment go?

Ascension uses the listed Mora and materials. Refinement raises the starting bonus cap and the per-second decay and rebuild increments, while also improving the Hexerei-conditioned all-types bonus. Each refinement costs another copy, so prioritize it only when that stronger cycling effect matters enough to justify consuming duplicates.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • The initial damage bonus decays rapidly once combat begins.
  • Maintaining damage bonuses depends on hitting with the relevant attack types; the special all-types behavior requires Hexerei: Secret Rite effects.
  • Refinement consumes another copy.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming the 60% initial bonus stays at full strength during combat; it decays by 10 percentage points each second at R1.
  • Applying the Hexerei all-types hit effect without the party possessing Hexerei: Secret Rite effects.
