Understand Vortex Vanquisher
Useful when…
- Repeated-hit polearm damage while protected by a shield
- A shield-focused setup that also values the weapon's Shield Strength bonus
How its passive works
At refinement 1, it raises Shield Strength by 20%. Hits grant 4% ATK for 8 seconds, up to five stacks, with a 0.3-second trigger limit. While the wielder is shielded, the ATK increase is doubled. Thus, reaching all five stacks gives 20% ATK before the shield condition and twice that amount while protected. Higher refinements raise the listed Shield Strength and per-stack ATK values.
When it fits
The weapon's ATK secondary stat and hit-based stacks suit a wielder who can keep attacking, while the shield condition rewards maintaining protection. Without a shield, its hit stacks still work, but the doubled portion does not. The Catch instead focuses on Burst damage and Burst CRIT Rate; Ballad of the Fjords grants Elemental Mastery only with at least three different Elemental Types in the party, so those weapons serve different conditions.
Investment and caveats
Ascension advances the weapon through six stages. Refinement consumes another copy and Mora, so consider it only if spending a duplicate is worthwhile for the higher Shield Strength and per-stack ATK values. Do not count the doubled ATK unless the wielder is actually protected by a shield.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Its strongest ATK condition depends on having a shield.
- The passive rewards repeated hits rather than Burst use specifically.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the doubled ATK bonus applies without a shield.
- Treating the hit stacks as an immediate maximum bonus; they build through hits and are limited by the trigger interval.
