Understand Wavebreaker's Fin
Useful when…
- A polearm wielder whose damage comes substantially from Elemental Burst
- A party composition whose combined maximum Energy capacity supports the passive
How the scaling works
At R1, each point of combined party maximum Energy capacity adds 0.12% Elemental Burst damage, up to 40%. For example, multiply the party's combined maximum capacity by 0.12 percentage points, then stop at the 40% cap. Refinement raises both the per-point rate and cap, reaching 0.24% per point and an 80% cap at R5. This bonus applies to the wielder's Burst damage, not all attack damage.
When to consider it
The weapon has an ATK secondary stat, while its passive rewards party Energy capacity rather than a specific attack sequence. The Catch offers Burst damage and Burst CRIT Rate directly; Ballad of the Fjords instead grants Elemental Mastery when the party has at least three different Elemental Types. Compare the conditions against the wielder's damage source and party composition rather than assuming one is a universal replacement.
Investment and caveats
Ascension runs through six stages. Refinement consumes a duplicate and Mora and improves the scaling rate and cap. Check the party's combined maximum Energy capacity when judging the passive; reaching the cap is not guaranteed simply by equipping the weapon.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The passive benefits Burst damage only.
- Its ceiling depends on the entire party's combined maximum Energy capacity.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying the Burst bonus to Normal, Charged, or Skill damage.
- Assuming the maximum bonus without checking combined party Energy capacity.
