Understand Hook
Useful when…
- Applying Burn with her Skill and exploiting the Talent's additional damage and Energy gain.
- Using her Ultimate before a Skill when adjacent enemies should also be hit.
How do Burn and her attacks work?
Her ordinary Skill hits one enemy and has a 100% base chance to Burn it for 2 turns. Burn deals Fire damage equal to 25% of Hook's ATK at the beginning of the affected enemy's turn. When Hook attacks a Burned target, her Talent deals additional Fire damage equal to 50% of her ATK and restores 5 extra Energy. Her Ultimate deals single-target Fire damage equal to 240% of her ATK and enhances her next Skill. That enhanced Skill hits its designated enemy for 140% of her ATK and adjacent enemies for 40% of her ATK, with a 100% base chance to Burn the main target for 2 turns. These are listed level-one values.
When is she useful?
Hook's Burn setup gives her a reason to keep attacking targets with that state: doing so adds damage and Energy through her Talent. Her Ultimate's enhanced next Skill is useful when an adjacent target can also be caught by the attack. Her Technique can start a fight by giving every enemy a 100% base chance to Burn for 3 turns, then deals damage equal to 50% of her ATK to one random enemy upon entering battle. The Technique can therefore establish Burn across enemies before her regular turns, while her Skill remains focused on its chosen target except when enhanced.
Which upgrades are sensible?
Her Skill supports both direct damage and Burn setup, the Ultimate provides a strong single-target hit and enables the adjacent-target Skill, and the Talent improves attacks against Burned enemies while returning Energy. Those three tracks are reasonable priorities when investing in her damage and Burn-focused use. Promotion and the listed ATK Boost traces also fit the fact that her attacks and Burn damage scale from ATK. Trace leveling and unlocks require additional materials at higher stages, so weigh those costs against how often you use her Burn interactions. The supplied progression details describe costs and unlocks, not the numerical gains at each upgrade level.
How does she differ from other Fire Nihility characters?
Hook is a 4-star Fire character on the Destruction path. Guinaifen is also listed as a 4-star Fire character on Nihility, while Fugue and Jiaoqiu are 5-star Fire Nihility characters. The shared element or Path alone does not show that those characters reproduce Hook's ATK-scaling Burn, enhanced Skill, or Talent interaction.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Her ordinary Skill and Ultimate focus on one enemy; the enhanced Skill adds damage to adjacent enemies but with a lower listed multiplier.
- Her Talent's additional damage and Energy require the attacked target to be Burned.
- Burn damage scales from ATK, as do her listed direct attacks.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Attacking an unburned target and expecting the Talent's extra damage and Energy.
- Using the Ultimate without accounting for its effect on the next Skill: that Skill is enhanced and can hit adjacent enemies.
- Treating the ordinary Skill as an area attack; only its enhanced form damages adjacent targets.
