Understand Wavestrider Captain
Useful when…
- A damage dealer who receives ally-targeted abilities and can use their Ultimate while both Help stacks are available.
How the bonuses work
Two pieces grant 16% CRIT DMG. With four pieces, the wearer gains one Help stack whenever another ally's ability targets them, up to two stacks. If both stacks are present when the wearer uses their Ultimate, the set consumes them and grants 48% ATK for 1 turn.
When to consider it
The set's 4-piece value depends on both ally targeting and Ultimate timing. Consider it when those conditions occur naturally in your party's play pattern; otherwise, the 2-piece CRIT DMG bonus is the more dependable part. As Navigator Isee Sees It instead boosts Skill and Ultimate damage after entering combat or using Skill, while Sacerdos' Relived Ordeal buffs the CRIT DMG of an ally targeted by the wearer's Skill or Ultimate.
Practical limitation
The ATK bonus requires two qualifying ally-targeted abilities before the wearer uses their Ultimate. An ally ability that does not target the wearer will not build Help, and an Ultimate used before the second stack is ready will not receive this stated 4-piece activation.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The 4-piece bonus is conditional on receiving two ally-targeted abilities and coordinating the Ultimate.
- The 2-piece CRIT DMG bonus does not depend on Help stacks.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming any ally ability grants Help, even when it does not target the wearer.
- Using the Ultimate before the wearer has two Help stacks and expecting the 48% ATK bonus.
