Understand Copper Leggings
Useful when…
- Wear them for 3 armor points as basic leg armor.
- Use Swift Sneak to increase movement speed while sneaking.
- Choose a protection enchantment to match expected damage.
What do they provide?
Copper leggings equip in the legs slot and provide 3 armor points, with no listed armor toughness. They have 165 maximum durability. They can be crafted from copper ingots, and Java 26.3 also lists them in abandoned camp chests and as possible worn-mob drops.
Which enchantments are relevant?
Swift Sneak increases movement speed while sneaking. Protection, Projectile Protection, Blast Protection, and Fire Protection cover different damage situations but cannot be combined with one another. Unbreaking reduces durability consumption, and Mending repairs the leggings when experience is obtained.
How should they be repaired?
An anvil repair using a copper ingot restores 25% of maximum durability, rounded down, and preserves enchantments. Anvil combination also preserves enchantments, though it costs experience. Crafting or grindstone combination adds durability plus 5% but does not preserve enchantments. Armor trims change appearance without increasing strength.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The 3 armor points offer basic protection; Swift Sneak is useful only when sneaking movement is relevant.
- Anvil repairs retain enchantments, while crafting or grindstone combination loses them.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting armor trims to improve protection.
- Combining enchanted leggings through crafting or a grindstone and expecting enchantments to remain.
- Attempting to combine multiple mutually exclusive protection enchantments.
