Understand Diamond Helmet
Useful when…
- Add head-slot defense to an armor setup.
- Use Respiration or Aqua Affinity when underwater breathing or mining is a priority.
- Keep an enchanted helmet in service with anvil repairs or Mending.
What protection does it provide?
Equipping it in the head slot adds 3 armor points and 2 armor toughness. The helmet has 363 maximum durability; it does not provide protection once it breaks.
Which enchantments suit the job?
Protection IV is the general damage-reduction option. Projectile Protection, Blast Protection, and Fire Protection specialize against their named damage sources, and those four protection enchantments cannot be combined with one another. Respiration III extends underwater breathing and Aqua Affinity improves underwater mining speed. Unbreaking III reduces durability consumption chances, while Mending repairs the helmet when you collect experience. Curse of Binding prevents removal; Curse of Vanishing makes it disappear on death.
How should you maintain it?
An anvil repair with a diamond restores 25% of maximum durability, rounded down, and preserves enchantments. Combining two helmets in an anvil also preserves enchantments; crafting or grindstone combination adds durability plus 5% but does not promise enchantment retention in the supplied repair notes. Trims change appearance and have no gameplay effect. Chainmail helmets are another head-slot armor item, but the supplied comparison provides no stats to establish a protection advantage.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Specialized protection enchantments require choosing a damage type rather than using Protection.
- A diamond repair material restores a quarter of maximum durability per repair.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Trying to combine Protection with Projectile, Blast, or Fire Protection.
- Assuming armor trims improve defense.
- Using Curse of Binding on a helmet you may need to remove.
