Understand Dragon Head
Useful when…
- Decorate a build with a directional dragon-head block.
- Create a moving-mouth display with redstone power.
- Wear it for appearance or to hide from other players' locator displays.
How can you place and animate it?
Dragon Heads generate on the bows of End ships in End cities. A placed head can face 16 directions on top of a block or four directions on a block side. When powered by redstone, its mouth opens and closes twice per second. A Dragon Head above a note block makes it play the Ender Dragon's ambient sound when activated. The head drops as an item when destroyed, including by an explosion.
What happens when you wear it?
The head can be worn in the head slot like a helmet or pumpkin and overlays the second layer of the player's skin. Wearing it makes the player invisible to other players on a locator map and locator bar. It does not change the Ender Dragon's behavior: the dragon still attacks the wearer as usual.
What are its limits?
The Dragon Head accepts Curse of Binding and Curse of Vanishing only through an anvil. Pistons destroy it when they push it, and sticky pistons cannot pull it. Its locator effect applies to other players' locator displays; it is not an Ender Dragon disguise or general invisibility effect.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Its wearable locator effect is limited to other players' locator map and locator bar.
- It does not deter the Ender Dragon.
- Pistons destroy the placed head when pushing it.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Wearing it as protection or expecting it to disguise you from the Ender Dragon.
- Assuming its locator effect makes the player invisible to mobs or in the world generally.
- Using pistons to move the placed head.
