Understand Golden Leggings
Useful when…
- Wear them to gain 3 armor points and avoid piglin attacks unless you provoke or attack the piglins.
- Use them as a temporary armor piece or apply leggings-compatible enchantments for a specific need.
What do they provide?
Worn in the legs slot, Golden Leggings add 3 armor points. Their maximum durability is 105. As with other gold armor, wearing them prevents piglins from attacking unless you provoke or attack them.
Which improvements are useful?
They can receive Protection, Projectile Protection, Blast Protection, or Fire Protection, but those four options are mutually exclusive. Swift Sneak improves sneaking movement speed; Unbreaking can reduce durability consumption, and Mending repairs the leggings when you gain experience. Consider durability enchantments if you expect to keep using them, given their 105 durability.
How can they be repaired?
An anvil with a gold ingot restores 25% of maximum durability, rounded down, and preserves enchantments. An anvil can also combine two pairs while preserving enchantments, at an experience cost. Crafting or grindstone combination adds the remaining durability plus 5%, but removes ordinary enchantments; curse enchantments remain. Armor trims change appearance only and do not improve gameplay or armor strength.
What should you watch out for?
Curse of Binding prevents removal, so check for it before equipping found leggings. Curse of Vanishing makes the item disappear on death. Piglins are attracted to dropped golden leggings and may inspect and equip them, so avoid leaving them on the ground nearby.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The 3 armor points can be useful, but 105 durability is limited for repeated use.
- Gold armor helps with piglins, while enchantment choices and the need for repairs determine whether a pair is worth maintaining.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Equipping leggings with Curse of Binding without checking first.
- Assuming armor trims increase protection; they are cosmetic.
- Using crafting or a grindstone to combine enchanted pairs and expecting ordinary enchantments to survive.
