Understand Leather Pants
Useful when…
- Wear them in powder snow when you need leather armor's freezing protection.
- Use Swift Sneak leggings when faster sneaking is useful.
What do they do?
Worn in the leg slot, Leather Pants add 2 armor points and protect against freezing in powder snow. Maximum durability is 75, and the pants are dyeable in Java Edition.
What can Swift Sneak add?
Swift Sneak increases movement speed while sneaking and can be applied to leggings up to level III. This is a task-specific movement benefit; it does not raise the pants' armor points.
How do you repair them?
Each leather used in an anvil restores 25% of maximum durability, rounded down, and preserves enchantments. Anvil combination of two pants also preserves enchantments. Crafting or grindstone combination adds the remaining durability plus 5% of maximum but removes enchantments.
What are the limitations?
The 2 armor points are a modest contribution. Armor trims do not increase strength. Protection, Projectile Protection, Blast Protection, and Fire Protection are mutually exclusive, so only one of those damage-reduction options can be used on the pants.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Swift Sneak and powder-snow protection can justify the slot for specific routes, but base defense is limited.
- Anvil repairs retain enchantments; crafting or grindstone combinations do not.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting a trim to improve protection.
- Combining enchanted pants through crafting or a grindstone and expecting enchantments to remain.
- Planning to combine multiple Protection variants on one pair.
