Understand Adaptation
Useful when…
- Survival builds that can build resistance by taking repeated damage.
- Encounters where the Warframe may receive repeated hits of damage types it can adapt to.
How resistance builds
When damaged, the mod grants +5% resistance to that damage type for 10 seconds at rank 0, stacking up to 90%. At rank 5, each listed increment is 7.5% and lasts 15 seconds. At rank 10, it grants +10% for 20 seconds, still stacking up to 90%. The resistance is type-specific and triggered by taking damage of that type.
When it suits a build
Adaptation is relevant when incoming hits give it opportunities to build and refresh resistance. Since the trigger is damage taken, it does not begin at its maximum stacks simply by equipping the mod. It occupies a standard Warframe slot and has Vazarin polarity, maximum rank 10, and base drain 2.
Large rank investment
The mod has a long 10-rank track. Listed examples include 30 Endo and 1,449 credits from rank 0 to 1; 960 Endo and 46,368 credits from rank 5 to 6; and 15,360 Endo and 741,888 credits from rank 9 to 10. Rank 10 provides +10% per stack for 20 seconds. These costs rise steeply, so intermediate ranks can be a practical stopping point if the added increment and duration do not justify further investment yet.
Different defensive conditions
Armored Recovery is a Conclave variant that provides damage resistance when knocked down and reduces Slide. Agility Drift reduces damage while airborne and reduces enemy accuracy when targeting the Warframe. Air Thrusters is also a Conclave variant and changes airborne slide boost and mobility. Those effects have different conditions and variants; they do not build type-specific resistance from incoming hits in the way Adaptation does.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Resistance is triggered by taking damage and is specific to the damage type received.
- The rank 10 upgrade costs are high; stacks also have a listed duration.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming Adaptation starts at its maximum resistance when equipped.
- Expecting resistance against a damage type without taking damage of that type.
