Understand Broken War
Useful when…
- Review the normal-attack damage split and critical properties for a melee build.
- Distinguish the regular and heavy slam damage types and listed falloff.
Normal attacks
Normal attacks list 187 damage: 149.6 Slash, 18.7 Impact, and 18.7 Puncture. They have 35% critical chance, a 2.2× critical multiplier, and 20% status chance. Listed range is 2.5 m and follow-through is 0.6. Slam modes have separate damage entries.
Regular and heavy slams
The regular slam is an area attack listing 374 Impact damage, with falloff from 0 to 7 m and a 50% reduction at the endpoint. The heavy slam is a separate area attack listing 561 Blast damage, with falloff from 0 to 8 m and a 30% reduction at the endpoint. Heavy-attack wind-up is listed as 0.6 seconds.
Other melee weapon types
War is a heavy blade with 26% critical chance and a 2.6× critical multiplier. Cobra & Crane is a sword-and-shield weapon; its description says the first strike in a combo renders a foe unconscious in Baruuk's hands. Dark Split-Sword can be used as a heavy sword or split into dual blades with a Dual Melee stance. These descriptions establish distinct weapon types or conditions, not direct replacements for Broken War.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Normal attacks have a listed range of 2.5 m.
- The heavy slam has a listed 0.6-second wind-up.
- Slam damage types differ from the normal attack's Slash-heavy profile.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying the normal attack's damage split to the Impact regular slam or Blast heavy slam.
- Assuming Cobra & Crane's described unconscious effect applies outside Baruuk's hands.
- Treating Dark Split-Sword's alternate forms as properties of Broken War.
