Understand Caustacyst
Useful when…
- Use normal attacks for mixed physical and Corrosive damage with a 37% status chance.
- Charge a heavy attack to launch the Corrosive Wave and create the Corrosive Pool.
Heavy attack effects and conditions
The heavy attack has a listed one-second charge time. Its Corrosive Wave is a projectile with 225 Corrosive damage and listed travel values of 15; the accompanying Corrosive Pool is an area attack with 98 Corrosive damage and 50% status chance. These are distinct attacks from the regular melee and slam modes. Normal attacks list 260 total damage: 103 Corrosive, 71 Puncture, 69 Slash, and 17 Impact, with 9% critical chance, a 2× multiplier, and 37% status chance.
Other attack modes and investment
A regular slam deals 520 Impact in an area, with falloff from 0 to 8 m and 50% reduction at the endpoint. A heavy slam deals 780 Blast over an area, with falloff from 0 to 9 m and 30% reduction. The wave and pool effects are therefore not the weapon's slam attacks. Its high normal-attack status chance and substantial Corrosive component support considering status-oriented upgrades; the 9% critical chance is modest. It has a Madurai polarity. Its one-second wind-up makes heavy attacks a deliberate choice rather than an immediate strike.
Alternatives
Tenet Grigori is another scythe, but its description ties a spinning disk to a Heavy Slide Attack and its lifetime to combo counter size. Arca Titron is a hammer that builds electron charges from successive kills for slam attacks. Masseter is a heavy blade, with a Grendel-specific stagger and knockdown immunity during heavy attacks.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Heavy attack requires a one-second charge.
- Base critical chance is 9%.
- Wave, pool, regular slam, and heavy slam have separate damage and status values.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the Corrosive Wave is the heavy slam; the wave and pool belong to the charged heavy attack.
- Ignoring the one-second charge when judging how readily the heavy effect can be used.
